Okay, so due the poopy job done with the circuitry of our turn signals, I have to always hit my hazards to kick the turn signals back. Well the other day due to what I can figure would be stress the plastic that the hazard button clips into in the dash broke and pushed through to the inside. I've taken the ring of the gauge cluster out and temporarily rigged it to stay in there. But now the thing will not clip in no matter what, and I can't think of anything that would work to hold it in there like a brace, what not. Anybody had this problem, or any good ideas how to fix it???

Mine broke when the dealership did the recall repair on it without telling me, and they left the broken piece in there, but it still holds in place fine. Yep, it's a cheap fragile piece, get a new one from the wreckers for a buck.

mine popped in the dash last summer with the hazard lites still on after i had left for a 2 hour trip!. Had to drive the whole way with my signal fuse pulled. When i did get a chance to fix it the switch just popped back in fine, and has stayed in ever since.

Happened to me about a year ago. Take apart the guage cluster cover things per whatever instructions you can find in the howto sections. Its very quirky how to get to it but what you need to do is just push it back in and it should clip back into place. I was so pissed when this happened to me but when I put it back together I was quite happy.

Yeah I can get there but the plastic "housing" the button slide into then the box thing clips in the housing. The housing piece that locks the notches into places, the bottom has broke. Like a piece connected to the dash like take the trim piece out and push the button out, and the hollow tube type thing, the bottom of that broke, plastic poop

Wait I just reread that and I may have misunderstood you. When this happened to me the clip was not broken and I was able, doing the above, to fully fix it. Maybe you didnt push it in far enough

No I did try to fix it but a plastic piece came off of that tube. The tube thing has like to holes where the rectangular box things, has to nipples that clip into those holes, but it broke from like the hole back so therefore there is no tension to keep it in place. the top notch goes in but theres no pressure from the bottom to keep it in. I know it sounds stupid

Ive had this happen on both of the Aleros Ive owned. On my first one the dealership just put a tiny screw in the side to hold it in place.

On my current Alero it has been called in for recall so I'll see if they will just replace it. You should be able to replace the switch with a new black plastic piece. Somewhere on here there is a post from a year or so ago with the part number.

i have the plastic piece out of my dash for the hazard switch.. when I shaved it off the dash board. Let know if you want it.. Just pay shipping. if not i'd bet its like 3-4 bucks at the dealer for the part (so it might be worth shipping).

hahaha, it's so funny to find common problems like this...you read it and think to yourself "that happened to mine too".

My hazard light switch didn't bust, but my turn signals did stop working so when i took it to the dealer for that they did the recall on the hazard lights and for the turn signals they charged me a pretty 250$ or something like that to replace the fuse box.

So, if I got the new housing piece from aftermath would I be able to get that in without taking the whole dash down??? I would rather do the easiest way possible. I was thinking of doing something like Alerosince99 said the dealership did and put a little screw going into the blinker box behind the button. I know if I did this and went too deep it could possibly screw up the blinking mechanism, but it seems like the easiest way. What do y'all thinK?????
