It's nice not having a car payment.

And when you can work on your own car it's even better!

Just bought some parts, nothing special. If you were wondering I have a 2.2 auto. It has about 114,000 miles. Can't remember the last time I bought this many parts for it.

ACDELCO PF458G Oil Filter $ 8.70 $ 0.00 1 $ 8.70
ANCHOR 3070 Transmission Mount $ 35.99 $ 0.00 1 $ 35.99
ANCHOR 2874 Transmission Mount $ 26.79 $ 0.00 1 $ 26.79
ANCHOR 2875 Transmission Mount $ 6.21 $ 0.00 1 $ 6.21
DORMAN 03142 Exhaust Flange Stud and Nut $ 4.42 $ 0.00 5 $ 22.10
FEL-PRO MS96377 Exhaust Manifold Gasket $ 12.47 $ 0.00 1 $ 12.47
MONROE 171672 Strut Assembly $ 117.79 $ 0.00 2 $ 235.58
MONROE 171686 Strut Assembly $ 109.79 $ 0.00 2 $ 219.58

There is a $100 rebate on the struts.

It is nice not having a car payment, and at the same time it's not.

Not paying any money every month, good, less and less secured debt, could be bad, credit score wise

And next time you order parts, shop around!

I'm not worried about credit. I'm doing good there. You are right though, in some situations.

I think I got pretty good prices. I ordered from rock auto. I looked at other sites but decided to just order it all from rock auto.

I really can't wait to get the struts in. The car is pretty bouncy and the roads around my work suck.

  • Oil filter can be had at any local store for around $4.
  • Studs and nuts are hardware items, no need to spend $4.42 per stud/nut combo when you can get Grade 8 hardware like that from a store for significantly cheaper.
  • Could've upgraded your struts for the same price to KYB AGX.

Otherwise RockAuto is usually the best place to order stuff.

The filter comes with a new cap, that's why it looks high. I think mine is leaking.

I thought about going with KYB but the $100 mail in rebate for the monroe struts was just too tempting. It's the complete assembly, with a spring and mount fully assembled ready to drop in.

I've done that for a motor mount bolt (the big bolt that goes through the rubber part of the mount) and it's been in place for at least a couple of years.

I also use Monroe because I actually prefer the softer struts. If you have ever driven through Baltimore City you will understand why!!! That and the Monroe's are often made in USA.

Shouldn't this thread be in the Off Topic area?

That's just for the struts, not a whole "quick strut". I figure on doing the whole thing (quick strut) when I do mine, simply because I understand that the strut mounts on these cars aren't particularly good.
