if you want to prevent your car from going the way of entropy, i'd avoid nitrous.

nitrous is legal, noob. why would nitrous be illegal yet superchargers and turbochargers are legal. all add power.
get the hazardous materials paperwork and material classification label on your car and you're fine
cherrington, you're clueless. along with most when it comes to nitrous use. everyone's like OMG nitrous boom. turn off Fast and the Furious, it's nothing like that whatsoever.

you can also go the route of RSM/Z-Spec S/C Kit.. but a few components would have to be replaced once you get the kit... PFYC.com offers it for $4400 but Z-spec.com offers it for $2900
for all the info for to make sure the s/c kit is bulletproof. heres all the info you need it to do it. once your good. the expected output this S/C kit will provide is 80/hp and 75 ft/lbs tq.. but also expect this.. kinda shitty Customer Service tho..

not clueless persay... but its generally more of the happening around here. Someone gets NOS (which i'm pretty sure is illegal here in NY, and i'm positive that your insurance will drop you if your found with it) and they mount a massive amount of it to a stock engine.
start street racing, hit the N20, and their engine craps out.
i KNOW this doesn't happen to everyone, and that you can run it, in a stable manner. but how many people who have it/use it, know what they are doing. most HP seekers, go for permanent power.

Nitrous is permanent power. It's because a shitload of retards are throwing on HUGE shots (100+ HP) of DRY, meaning, they're spraying nitrous oxide which adds a lot of air to the combustion, and no more fuel and expect the fuel system to magically add more fuel to compensate. When you spray WET, it sprays the perfect ratio of fuel to go along with the amount of nitrous. However, then you get people spraying also, huge shots, or on a fuel system that's worn down and doesn't make the same fuel pressure it used to. Fuel pressure drop, spike to lean, melt pistons, snap rods, etc.
The only reason carrying filled nitrous bottles is illegal is because you do not have the authority to transport that class chemical. It can be used as a drug (laughing gas, however most automotive use contains some sulphur or other toxic chemical so if you try it you die). As long as you have the proper papers for the material and display the proper warning label on the exterior of the vehicle it's perfectly legal.
Why the eff would using "nitrous" be any more illegal than any other power adder? You can use nitrous on the street without going over the speed limit, just like I can boost without speeding... cops just like to make it out to be that those with nitrous must be a "street racer" since that effing stupid F&F movie came out that made it look like nitrous tanks explode with blue fire in a car fire and cause floorboards to fall out.
When used properly, with low fuel pressure cutoffs and such, and with a reasonably sized horsepower addition amount, it's just as safe as forced induction.

well after the reality slap, im going to have to reat my own words and say yes, im a hopeless 18 year old, the best it will probably see while i have it are some perormace -maintanance parts and a CAI, a tune if lucky, but it will have a system bad enough to burn the altenator right up. 3500W RMS BABY
its going to be about a month before i get the amp though a hifonics 2000WRMS 1-ohm amp. and i'll throw a couple 10's in too. yeah thats about the only thing i know inside and out about cars ... electronics/ and audio. and no im not spending 183.99 for a F**king optima in the trunk, i'll settle for 2 1000CA Walmart specials $74.48ea.
