Low oil light coming on (oil isnt low)

So it started happening a couple months ago....its getting more frequent now. The low oil light will come on sometimes when i start the car, i turn the car off, then start it again and its gone. bad sensor? Its the one on the oil pan im guessing? lol

Just curious to see if 1. thats the issue and 2. if anybody has run across this problem cause i searched and couldn't find anything.

Thanks!

To the people who are thinking about saying "check your oil", read the title. She does burn about a half a qt an oil change....but the oil level has been perfect everytime it comes on.

that light comes on for two reasons 1) low oil level 2) low oil pressure. the pressure sensor is located in the head to the best of my knowlege and just like any other man made device, it can fail. remove your sensor and place a test guage in its place and make sure your getting the right oiil pressure

I would guess the pressure sensor as well. IIRC it is on backside of engine and takes a larger socket to remove it. Let's just hope it is the sensor as it is quicker and easier than replacing an oil pump!

i cant recall but does our cars have a "low oil level" light and a "oil pressure" light?

if there is only one light and its the red oil lantern i would strongly recommend NOT waiting to atleast verify its a sensor and not low pressure. if its low pressure you could be harming your engine by waiting.

it has both, I think hes talking about the low oil light (yellow, not the red light)
