Crap... A/C compressor
So well, here's the problem. I noticed that my A/C compressor is making noise, but not all the time. Its like something is loose and metal is slightly rubbing against metal.
Compressor still blows cold. When I engage the A/C (or put it on defrost) the noise is gone. When I turn the A/C back off, noise comes back.
So what now? does it only need some greasing? Could it seize? I guess theres really someone up there that wants me to take my supercharger off and on again!

pretty common my cutlass used to do it, just leave your AC on with the fan off and you wont have a problem. Otherwise it is the clutches in side that need to be replaced.

I'd leave it on, but theres such a difference in power from when the A/C is on and when its not. It also sucks on MPG.

It's the A/C clutch making a "scrubbing" or "whirring" sound. It's really common on the V5 compressors.

Thanks Cliff for the precision.
I dont really care if it makes that kind of noise every once and then, but whats the worse scenario on the long term? A/C not working? compressor Seizing?

compressor wont seize. It just wears the clutch a little bit on the compressor. The clutch can be serviced separately though.

mine made crappy metal scraping noises and turned off when i turned on the a/c, then eventually never turned off, then died. diagnosed compressor clutch fails.

Yeah it sounds like the clutches are starting to go. Nothing to really worry about if the AC is still working as it should.
I never replaced the clutches in mine, I just got a new compressor. My compressor had a hole in it anyway

We are talking compressors here, not enignes.
Again, since you can't tell the difference, maybe you shouldn't be doing this 3800 s/c swap

Ya I was looking at some compressors on Ebay, they arent that expensive. Maybe what I'll do is gather a starter, an Alternator and an A/C compressor and swap them all one shot so I dont have to take the supercharger out 3 times
