Need advice/tips on the Roll Cage. That parts coming up (then the seats, or should the seats come in first?). In short guys (and gals) I want to replace the two front seats with Momo seats, and remove the rear seats, and put in the roll cage. Has anyone done this or have any advice on the best way to go abouts doing this? Thanks again in advance for your help. Those pictures I have so far will be up if not this weekend, then soon! Take care all,

Ej.

Pics are back home, but I've been at a base away from them for some time, but coming home this weekend...

What do you mean by the tracks exactly?

He ^^^ means use the stock seat rails and weld the new seats to them. Its kind of difficult to mount aftermarket seats to our cars.

ej, i got your pm....do the seats first, this way when the cage gets welded in, your door bars will contour with the seat....ie...wider or lower or higher...etc.

if you dont have a speed shop around you somewhere that will do a custom cage for you...for at the most 240 bux...then order the vega/monza cage ...6 point, and go from there. keep in mind that most speed shops want all the carpet out and the interior stripped as much as possible..like seats carpet, and rear deck/or back seat surrounds so they can weld in the plate for the rear bars

as far as the back seat coming out...you will have to use something other then tin(very noisy!!) so maybe ask silent or someoone one the best way to lay a sheet of dynamat(i think thats what its called) over the back seat opening, and mold fiberglass, or sheet plastic, and cover it with carpet....yeah carpet is not in a stock car, but then again you want to be able to hear yourself think

That helps a lot, Thanks! Okay, well, I've FINALLY got those pictures here. The first one is a side view once mounted. The next one is just holding it up prior to final painting. You'll notice a couple of stock parts there. The entire project took 1 day of work, some pipes from Canadian Tire, a can of spray paint, patience in figuring out the angles, a $15 muffler (got it for a deal), and did the welding in my front yard.

i like the idea, i think however it looks way outta place, i think it would look better if you had some side skirts to form fit around the exhaust and it would be a killer look

Side Skirts will be put on (once the body kit will be made, again, the NASCAR theme for the body of the Alero will be the most difficult part. The side skirts bottom edge will hopefully be between 1/2 to 1 inch below the bottom of the exaust pipes). This was just the first step of many in obtaining the final look I'm working towards.

I see you got the Sport Model with the "removed" wheel center caps and the red inner ring/caliper combo. I think those model came with an extra 20 horses due to weight reduction of the caps.

i like the idea also, however, i dont see a use for the resonator unless its obscenly loud with out it, also i think that muffler you have on there might not be the best choice...that is a louvered one way core right?...i prolly would have used a aluminum "turbo tube"...from jegs, or summit.....as for the side skirts, and kit....for a true NASCAR theme and being cost effective, maybe use 1/4'' industrial sheet plastic/nylon combo.....that make sense???...anyone??

Does make sense. At the time though, it was the easiest and most economical way of doing it - as well as fitting it in... there's not much room under there... as for the resonator, it was added after trying it without... it was louder than... well... it was too loud. There was also a problem of vibrations felt through the drivers seat, stearing wheel and shifter. With the resonator, the vibrations are still there, but noticably less - along with complaints from neighbors.

The caps were taken off because ppl at the U of Calgary have a tendency to steal them... why is beyond me, but meh... also, the paint covers the rust... too much salt is put on the roads in Alberta during the winter *shakes fist*

That exhaust must sound mean as hell, you do need to put side skirts on it to make it look right.

If you've got the side skirts, it's no problem, in time I'll try to get a side picture to show the profile of the pipes. They stick out about a CM (10 mm) from the edge of the stock side skirts, which gives you some room to work with. As for sound, it's great. No complaints from myself or passengers what so ever. The ONLY problem I've found with the exaust is due to the end pipes being tilted up slightly... water build up. Simple solution, two 1/8 inch holes drilled at the lowest point in the chrome "boom tubes" (one in each) lets the build up of water drain out without a problem.

Has anyone removed the seats, and or carpet from the interior? If so, what steps are needed with the seats, and carpet? One thing I'm curious about is what exactly is under the carpet. Some have told me sound reducing "tar" others say just sticky film... I'd just like to know what I'm getting myself into. Thanks,

Ej.

right on, thanks.

Also, this weekend I'll be adding some, SOME, side skirt to the side. After sitting down and talking over beers with a couple guys, ideas started to fly. I'll try and get some pictures ready... just to show what's going to be done, as well as welcome any other ideas or comments as to "how much were you drinking you fool!"
