clunking noise in drive while idle
ok so my car has recently developed a clunking noise when i put it in drive and am sitting idle. step on the gas and it goes away and it doesnt do it in park. i ran over a very large piece of wood last week so it may have something to do with that but i dont know. i inspected the undercarriage of the car when i got home that day and changed the oil. i had to pick a few wood chips off the oil and transmission pans which were slightly damaged but not leaking. it didnt start making the noise until after my road trip to north carolina last weekend. any ideas? could that piece of wood damaged the internals of the trasmission? it was larger than a 4x4, i think 6x6, and i hit going 60mph....

Is it just in idle or is it worse when you shift into drive or reverse?

its any gear at idle. after listening to it on the way to work, i also hear it going over bumps but not as loud which lends me to believe its something with the rear suspension. but if its suspension then why does it do it when im not moving? i guess i will have to remove the rear wheels this weekend and take a closer look.

yeah i have the same issue, my exhaust vibrates against the trailing arm in the rear, i use a material to deaden the vibration.

i have kicked my muffler tip several times and it doesnt move. its a distinct clunking, not a metal on metal twang....
when i had the car jacked during the oil change i inspected the exhaust pipe and didnt even see a dent in it from the wood.

i havent attempted that yet but i have knelt down next to it and i didnt think it was exhaust. maybe it is though. it doesnt help that my exhaust is so loud that the noise is heard easier inside the car than outside it.
