well today we took the valve covers off and all the rocker arms and springs are all fine, after a little thought we cam to hte possible conclussion that it is more than likely that cam shaft or crank shaft either way that requries a complete tear down, so depending on if i feel like messing with it or not depends if im gonna just buy a new motor or try to fix

Not too bad then. I would still recommend opening the oil filter and looking for copper. If the cam was in that bad of shape, the cam bearings are likely pretty worn. It will be obvious when you pull the cam when you see the journals.
My cam journals (the two in the center) were in horrid shape, and there was considerable wear in the bearings. Some folks think there is a bit of flex in the stock cam. I would be curious to see some pictures of yours. Here is a quick shot of the carnage on my first tear down:

i dont think mine was quite that bad but i'll try and get a picture of it next time im over there working on my car
i'm replacing the transmission while i got the engine out since i had 130k miles on my car and found out the transmission was probably about to go out, i went ahead and got a new transmission with 65k miles for only $100 not to bad really.
if i keep this engine more than likely i'm going to go ahead and clean out the sludge build up inside the engine, replace the camshaft, get a whole new timing kit ( cam gear crank gear and chain), new oil pump ( just to be sure that wasn't the reason the lifters quit working), replacing the lifters obviously, new rods and new spark plugs
The reasoning is junkyards want to try and charge $750 for a engine with a lot of miles ranging from 120k-180k all at the same price when i will be better off to just replace all the parts in mine and have basically a newer engine,
