Maybe a dumb audio question?

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed how integrated the audio systems in new cars are with other systems? I am just curious if this means that the aftermarket audio industry is going to go away considering that it's not as simple as replacing head units anymore?

For example, my aunt wanted a new headunit in her 2006 Malibu but they said it could not be done because her oil life monitor along with other car controls function through the stock headunit. I was just looking at the new malibu and literally the whole center stack is a mix of car controls and radio controls...

Anyone have insight on this?

The 06 malibu has a kit. It like how they said our airbag would not work if the radio was taking out, and all that good stuff

They relocate the radio to the trunk usually.

Car Audio is dieing off a slow death. Has been for years.

Disposable incomes are gone, fast food jobs for young kids is hard to get now days...

Its going away for sure, compiles are down to perfecting the things they have an not mass produce tons of different items. They tu to put better systems in most new cars now due the fact that they are so intifrated, my moms cruze... There's no way any sort of aftermarket headunits could go in, with the separate screen the shows radio along with almost all other car functions not to mention that radio/some havoc controls are are on the same deal, even of I harness could be made to keep all other car functions the radio controlls and sort of modified dash kit to put in a diff headunit would look terrible due to its disrupted flow of the rest of the dash, same as most other new cars.

Yeah seen that, too. Take a European P12 Nissan Primera. Look at the dash. where should I put a normal radio??

But on the other hand, the radio, sound system and their integration produced pretty decent sound systems that can do alot for almost nothing (if you buy the car new).

But I don' like this development, so I just stick to pre 90s cars - if the Alero ever dies (and thats better not happen)

Pioneer has an answer:

http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/ar...0RS/index.html

it works with ODR and P9/90 processors, dvd's cd-dvd changer, and has rca and opticai input for signal from factory HU...

second way is Helix p-dsp or hi-end c-dsp, both has hi-level or rca and even digital inputs, after that you can do everything....
Helix is ready for MOST type of signal, it works with audi mmi, mercerdes, and BMW HU with external amps and digital signals.

Right now i did some upgrade CA system my wife's car.
Factory HU (intergated computer, BT, steering wheel, ipod adapter) proc with amp Helix P50-DSP, but i did ful active system, front as tweeters, rear as woofers, + dedicated subwoofer.
