Double Bridging?

Ok, I just bought a sub, box and amp off this kid from CL

Here are the specs:

Quote:
Power Acoustik PS4-800 4-channel
4 ohms: 85 watts x 4 chan.
2 ohms: 105 watts x 4 chan.
Bridged, 4 ohms: 210 watts x 2 chan.

Now I'm assuming the next bridged rating would be something like 260w x 2chan @ 2ohm..... Would this be right??

Also it is running to ONE Alpine SWR-1243d 600wrms, of which has 4ohm DVC.

Now, here is the big question, is it possible (or safe for that matter) to double bridge this thing??? The bridge is currently running off channel 3&4, but if I run bridged 1&2 AND bridged 3&4 and run them both together to the sub and wire that to either 4ohms, would this work? I've never heard of double bridging, but seems like it might be possible. I'm thinking it would be putting out around 500wrms x 1chan @ 4ohms.

You wouldnt be able to double bridge the amp. Also, the amp most likely will not be stable at 2ohm.

Ya i agree the MRX-100 from alpine is a good choice so is the rockford 1000 BD-CP, and the JL 1200.1. Also what size power wire you running it should be at least 4 gauge and 12 gauge speaker wire.

Yea, I'm planning on getting the MRX-100 but just wanted to see what I could do with the amp that came with it. I have 4 gauge now, but its crappy no-name wire from my old sub system. Will be upgrading to 2 gauge here soon

I love my type R, good choice. ^and yes, putting more power to it makes a HUGE difference. Don't double bridge. You'll be fine with The single bridge set up for a while. Also for looking at new amps, check out the kenwood performance amps.

So, after only a few days, I fried the amp that came with the sub. I failed to realize that a 4ohm DVC wires down to a final impedance of 2 ohms. The amp that came with it runs at 4 ohms bridged @ 210w.

Oh well!! I did some further investigation and found the Alpine MRX-M50 will be my best bet since it runs 500w RMS @ 2 ohms and the sub runs at 600w RMS @ 2 ohms. I will be getting some new Kicker 4awg wiring as well.

Anyone have any input on caps? I was looking at this one on amazon and it seems ok.

Do not get a cap just do the big three upgrade a cap is a waste of money. just order more. power wire but i would go with 2 or 0 gaige then get a distrabution block and run 4gauge from there. that is what i have. for my alpine type r sub and it works great. the big three will really help i am still running a stock altenator and i am pushing 2 amps one alipne mpr1000 i got 2 years ago for the sub and a 600 watt amp for mids and highs

Ryan from Ohio will become famous soon enough
4 Ga on the big 3 is plenty. Your negative running thru the chassis/unibody can only support around 150 amps anyhow.

You cant wire a 4 channel amp down to 2 channels @ 2 Ohms. They dont do it. I seen you learned that the hard way though.
