Thumbs up

I've run into a small issue with an alternator I recently got...

upon taking my own alt off my 3400 V6, and attempting to put this new 160A'er on, I noticed it doesn't fit. not only does it not fit, but it also doesn't have the correct mounting holes on the back.... not even close to the right ones. so i'm left wondering, what does this go to?

and whats the quickest way then to ask some pros on here.... lol

Front view of pulley. (screw hole on right is like an 0.5 inch to big for my engine)
[attachmentid=9982]
Top front view. (can see the screw hole on the back left... this would have to be verticle to fit on the 3400)
[attachmentid=9983]
Back Top view.
[attachmentid=9984]

bought it from a member, who got it from another member.

original owner thought it was for a 2.2 sold it thinking it was for the 2.4... i was sold it thinking it was 3.4.

i'm thinking one of the two original owners (no offense you guys) didn't know it was for their's. its DEFINITELY NOT a 3.4 alternator..

i just want to figure out what it goes to, so i can get it to a proper owner... no sense bouncing around an alt that no-one can use...

Bump!

just tonight my battery died on me. i KNOW my alt is working, but not as much as i need to to be. so if someone could identify what engine this thing goes into, so i can sell it to a proper owner and get myself one that fits,

...that would be SWELL!

dude, i'm sure that high output alternators were never made for an alero, they were adapted from other larger alternators, that looks like it will fit the 3.4, it's been a while, but i wrote the how to for an alternator change, and are you sure it wont fit? the left bolt on the rear isnt vertical, it's almost horizontal.

look at the closeup pics in here

i'm absolutely positive it doesn't fit the 3.4L

besides the fact that the 3.4 has 3 bolt mounts, and this only has two, i guarentee that the back left bolt mount goes straight down into the engine (on a slight incline) where with this one it would have to go from left to right, mounting similarly to the front most bolt.

i just got a correct alt from mralternator.com and it mounted nearly perfect. (the front bolt doesn't quite match up, but the other two did and its holding very steady.)

and thanks formula for the write up, i used it a few times.

good stuff, glad to see that you got what you needed, it was hard for me to tell from your pics, couldnt see all angles you know? it just sucks that someone sold you an ALT that didnt work, i was hoping that maybe that was the ALT that smokinamd had, and that it would fit for you. but i guess not.

good luck selling that one!
