Ok. I've got the ectoec engine and its pretty good... but I want a little more power.

- First off.... what exactly does a CAI do?

- How much would an avg cold air intake cost?
- How much more power would I get with it?
- Does a cold air intake increase horsepower, torque, or does it do something else?

- Would a local mechanic install one, or would you have to do it yourself.

- If you get the intake would there be any sound differences. Would it be louder? Quieter, or about the same.

- Does a CAI change your fuel economy?

- Where can I find a CAI?

- Can you damage your engine with a CAI?

Thanks

Read the induction dynamics FAQ's. Answers to all your questions are there.
http://www.induction-dynamics.com/faq.html

They also sell a CAI for the Eco
http://www.induction-dynamics.com/ecotec.html

So too does rksport

Thanks.

Just for people that have had intakes (only ecotec people). How much has your car performace improved. If you have numbers that would be cool too. Like 140HP to what?

On the induction dynamics site:

This is a highly subjective topic. The increase in power depends on the climate, air pressure, the engine wear, and the engine age. Our dyno results prove that there is a measured increase in horsepower and torque, but offer no minimum guaranteed numbers.

In regards to numbers, it depends again. I've heard some people say 5-10 hp, sometimes a little over 10hp. But don't expect to have a constant hp increase.

Hello Everyone.
I know we have beat this topic to death but would anybody here on aleromod know for 100% if the CAI from induction dynamics fits our aleros. I would be very interested in purchasing this CAI but I am a bit sceptical because they list Cavalier/Sunfire and Gran AM under the same listing. On this board it was discussed that the Cavaliers and Sunfires are a bit different that the Grand Am yet induction dynamics sells these under one size fits all??? Any input would be very helpful.

On another note for $60 more one could get bigger throttle and a WAI, would that be a beter purchase? Any suggestions???

Thank you

Induction dynamics CAI will fit the alero, which would be better than a WAI

Stick with the CAI.

I run a CAI only at the track, run a WAI on the street.

I don't know what they have for the 2.2 Eco, but RSMracing.com has a lot of cool stuff. That's where I buy a lot for my 3.4. PFYC is cool too

BLK03GXS is an unknown quantity at this point
WAI=Warm Air Intake...
Basic differance Cai draws air from outside the engine bay...
Wai draws air from the engine compartment...

with a Wai there is little to no chance of hydrolock on your filter... because the intake filter is in the engine bay...

Oh, I'm familiar with that, but more commonly hear HAI, HOT Air Intake hehe

And what's Hydrolock?

When your filter and then engine suck in a lot of water... bad things happen...lol
that is a risk of a CAi Depending on the design.. allthou there are safety devices you can get..Ie a bypassvalve that will prevent it...

The filter helps block some water, but a CAI should be fine so long as it's not driven in heavy rain or through large puddles.
