motor dead? im no expert or anything close but that would make sense.. these are pretty peppy lil engines but not too tough.. especially at over 100k miles
Mine was rebuilt at about 50k.. only cuz of the previous driver totalling it in some stupid way.

so i dunno =-P im sure someone on here has better info to offer you Patty cakes =)

I honestly don't know what could cause the issue but I hope its nothing to serious/exspensive for you.

Without listening to the car its kinda hard to diagnose the problem. Are you sure its the top end and not the bearings? Does it get faster as RPMs increase?

Are you constantly replacing coolant or have you just recently noticed that the level is low?

How do you know you are getting low pressure in the corners? You could just be low on oil triggering the oil to move to the side of the pan and the idiot light to come on temporarily?

Change your oil and see what it looks like, metal in there is bad, very bad. Is there any coolant in there? If that is ok pull the plugs and see how they look.

valve ticking? i doubt it. maybe lifter noise. does it get louder or go away when you rev it up?

losing coolant since you have the miles you do i would say change you water pump.

losing oil pressure in sharp turns. well since our oil pan is not baffled this can me normal. it is a common problem with the 2.4. best bet is to change the oil and put 5 quarts in it the extra oil help from the sloshing. also it is not wise to take very sharp turns in the 2.4 because this leads to the #3 bearing going out which leads back to the sloshing.

i would recommend change oil, oil filter. add prolong to your oil. put in 5 quarts of oil.

also change water pump, t-stat, and coolant.

I have 84000 miles and I am just doing a tune-up before winter... new plugs, boots, and O2 sensor. Anybody recommend percautionary repairs or anything else while I have it taking apart?

water pump and t-stat. and when you do that use a new timing chain and tensioner.

another thing to check for ticking is the power steering fluid level. i noticed once mine was low and it made a odd noise. so check that out and top it off.

If you put in too much oil you start to get froth from the crank whipping it up constantly and the pump will not pick it up. I'm not sure how much fill fit without frothing, but if the crank doesn't churn it, the balance shafts will, if you have them.

I have 175K miles on mine and I just replaced the water pump, leaking from the weep hole. While in there we replaced the chain, guides, and tensionors. Also replaced the Thermo for the first time ever! Don't know about everyone else but other than regular maintance on my alero I haven't had any real trouble with it mechanically. As for the ticking I think that typical for the quad four engine to be a little ticky at idle. my had done that since we bought it with a little over 15K on the car. But if it gets louder as you rev then there def a problem. As for the leak check the water pump and all your hoses. Do you know approx the leak is comign from?? Passenger side prob the water pump. Driver side either upper raidiator hose or heater hoses, given that you don't have a blown gasket. As for the oil light?????

by putting in the extra 1/4 of a quart there is no issues with the crank whipping the oil.

First problem at 51,000k miles - Had to replace ignition coil on cylinders 3 and 2, cost $550

Second problem at 66,000k miles - Had to replace ignition coil on cylinders 4 and 1, cost $550

Third problem at 78,000k miles - Threw a rod bearing and f***ed up the block, replacing with a new 40k mile motor. cost $2500, its still in the shop from this incidence.

I hate my car, its the 2.4L 2001 GL
