Is it possible to adjust idle speed. In drive my car use to idle at 500 RPMs now it's up to about 900. Thanks for any input.

in good running condition your car is supposed to idle around 1000 rpms and lower is not good

on a cold start, it'll usually idle at about 1000 or even a little above. if you let it sit there and warm up to temp before driving, you'll notice it'll drop down to between 600-800. the computer controls the idle so there's nothing you can do to adjust it. if you think its too high or too low, disconnect the negative battery cable and let it sit for a little bit to reset the computer. then start it back up and let it idle for a little while to reset the IAC valve (idle air control).

The lower the RPM your car idles at (when warm), the better. As long as it's not so low that it's prone to stalling, that is. It saves you gas when sitting at a stoplight

So it likely "used to" idle at 1000rpm because it was winter, and your engine was cold. If your car isnt stalling or stuttering when it's idling, don't worry if it's only 500-600rpms.

My 2.4 idled at 700 to 750 higher idle when cold. I would be worried if it idled at 1000 all the time.

mine idles at around 600-700 most of the time when warm. In the winter it is about 1000-1200 when cold until it warms up.

Mine in the winter when I would first start it up would idle at like 1350rpm. THen once warmed up it would slow down to 700rpm. THats with the 3.4, but I have been in a few 2.4's and the idle was around the same roughly, couldn't see exactly what it was but it was pretty close to the same both times. I would say the idle shouldn't be anywhere below 500rpm, if it is then it would be a little too low. Depending on whether the car is modded or not the idle should be below the 1000rpm range for sure if not at 700rpm I would think though.

mine idles at 500-550 rpms when she's warm. so i wouldn't worry about it. because depending on the temp of the motor determines the idle of the motor.

If it's an auto... it should idle around 650rpm.. once it's warmed up (doesn't take more than a minute though!). 5 speeds should idle around 900..

ok, I had the exact same problems as FrankNY, my car was idling at over 1500 rpm on startup and gradually lowered down to 1000+rpm. And pulls hard when put into gear. Here was what I did.

Remove the Air Idle control valve. It use a 1/8" star allen key, I took it out clean the gunk build up on the valve, cleaned the throttle, remeber use a Q-tip that works much better, than a rag. I used brake cleaner so it leaves no residue. Air for about 10 minutes re-install, that fixed my idle problem.
