nearly impossible. AnderbrA is a pro at it, and he'll probably say that it's not worth the trouble for what you're doing.
Kudos for the creative thought, though.

dude, i'm not sure how grouch did it, but why wouldnt you just paint the outside? if you paint the inside, the amber will probably still show as amber... but i dont know.
and as far as getting the taillight out, you just loosen the three wingnut type screws, and twist all the bulbs out.

dont bother, just tint/paint the outside.
but, to answer your question:
first to get the wiring and bulbs out take all the bulbs out. then just pull on the black plastic wire harness in the middle to actually pull the harness off. its really easy to pull off.
now to get the lense off you pretty much have to cut it off and then ur f***ed cause it wont ever look right again. our tails are made NOTHING like our headlights where they just caulk the poop together. the tails are actually plastic welded together so ya, dremel is bout the only way youll get it off.
if i remember right grouch used testers model paint or something of that sort and painted the outside. i could be wrong on that but i do remember someone doing that.
