Was it unreasonable of me to think I could go at least 3 years/100,000 KM without having to worry about rust? When I spotted the rust last night I was ready to go trade the car in, I HATE RUST issed: . I thought that GM would provide better warranty protection than this on a vehicle, but it's not looking good. They state "All body sheet-metal components are warranted against rust-through for 6 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first)", but I doubt this qualifies as rust-through. I'm glad I noticed it before it got too bad, I'm gonna get it looked at by a body shop ASAP, but FFS, I bought the extended warranty so I could drive worry free for longer than this. Funny how a bunch of odd noises, leaks, and rust come about right around the 100,000 KM mark. Planned obsolescence doesn't sound like such a crazy theory after all...

Anyone else as fortunate as me?

I have rust, but I don't think it qualifies as 'rust-THROUGH' which is the term GM uses in their warranty. I think it actually has to rust a hole right thru the sheet metal to be covered under warranty. I hope I'm wrong.

^ Feed it some salt and water every night before bed, and you'll have that baby rusted through in no time and you can get some warranty work

ive got the same problem with mine, its only the hood though, according to the service dink, it has to have a hole in the metal, but im going tomorrow to argue with the body shop manager. mine is peeling and rusting under the hood.

I've got the same problem with the rust on my hood, and also the beam thing (gotta love those technical terms) between the windows on the passenger side.

I spoke to my dealership about it and they've said that GM will cover 50% of the cost. I just need to get around to taking it in now. 2 days without a car isnt something I'm looking forward to.

See pic for where my rust is. The rest of the body is rust free (it's a 2000), even my hood, it's chipped a bunch but fine for now, I try to keep the chips touched up.

Daytona is on a distinguished road
Rust-Through means rusting from the inside out. It doesn't cover surface rust which could be caused by the paint being chipped away by rocks or whatnot and exposing the bare metal underneath.

If you want it to be covered, poke the hole all the way through the metal so that it looks like it rusted from the inside out.
