Head Unit died?
Ok, so coming back here to college today i had my stereo turned up to a moderate volume, just bumpin a lil, and all of a sudden i hear a little pop sound and all the speakers just stop having sound coming out of them. none whatsoever front, rear, or tweets. But, my subs still work fine connected to the rear pre-amp output on the HU. What could have went wrong that made all sound for my speakers just stop, but the preamps still work? Is it fixable, or am i screwed? i have had this HU for 5 years so its kinda old-ish. Pioneer DEH-P3700 or somehting like that.

a fuse inside the HU? cause i have no amp for my regular speakers, they run right off the HU. and i thought if the one fuse showing on the HU blew the whole thing wouldn't work, it still turns on and all functions right just no sound.

Theres a few for the actual HU, either on the back of it or on the wiring harness itself.
Theres also a fuse in the fuse panel of the car for the HU.
If the preouts for the rears are working and the cabin speakers be driven off the deck are not working, then you may have a paperweight HU now.
Does your car use a factory amp? If so that may have died. If not chances are high your deck is dead.

crap, just spent money on snowmobile stuff didn't expect my HU to go out. I'll pull it out this afternoon and check all fuses, but unless there are some inside the HU itself for the cabin speakers, i'm screwed. cause like i said the rest of the HU operates normal, including the preamps, so it is getting power just fine. which means its not the fuse in the fuse panel or the one plugged into the back of the HU, but i am going to check them anyways.
btw, no factory amp.

There may be an internal fuse... Open her up.
You may be ebtter off buying a cheap amp to power the speakers?

ok, i opened the whole HU up, even took the circuit board out and looked on the bottom, no fuses or anything easily replaceable. I'm sure a transistor or something could be replaced to fix it, but i don't know how to do that and to have someone else do it would cost more than the radio is worth seeing that i only bought it for $130 new on a clearance sale on crutchfield.
So, its a paperweight for me. anybody want it for the faceplate or use an amp for the speakers cause the preamps work? highly doubt it but its yours if you do. I'm not gonna hook up more amps just for my cabin speakers.
So i guess i buy a new HU. Anybody have one that they really love for options?

Just bought a Kenwood (yea yea, i know) KDC-HD942U. Pretty darn nice HU for the price, and built in HD radio and iPod controls. All i usually listen to in my car is my ipod so that'll be good.
