Unhappy Wrecked my 01

It used to be so pretty!



And then I did this:





The damage isn't horrible, but the parts are extremely expensive to replace. Is there much of a market for people wanting to scoop a car like this whole, or am I going to have to junk it? I don't really have a place to store it while people pick it apart.

2001 4D V6 auto. ~130k. Ran and drove strong. It still drives, but the rad was leaking coolant after the wreck.

Seriously, that's definately fixable. Besides the hood and headlight, what else is damaged?

I'd imagine the rad will need replacing as it was leakin pretty well on the ground. It was bent backwards toward the engine, but didn't appear to be touching. A body shop estimated over 3k to repair with new parts, less than 2k with used parts but they would take longer to find.

just fix it yourself. and just find good stuff from a junk yard. you'll save more money then having a shop do it all. at a junk yard. i bet if you can find everything you need thats in good condition you prob wont even spend 1000$ on replacement parts. most you will prob spend money on is painting the parts you picked from junk yard.

If you have the luxury of time, you might be able to find one in the junkyard the right color too (I've done that twice). Also, there is a place on eBay that sells things like bumpers and fenders already painted to your color code.

I may go this route if I can squeeze my Alero in the same spot as my Blazer in storage haha. I'm going to go take a peak at it tomorrow afternoon and get a better look at the damage.

the front end should come apart, a piece at a time. Just a matter of chipping away at it, and getting the parts from yards.


the nice thing about these cars, is as they get older, more and more scrap cars become available.

why does everyone always think they are body men??? "oh i can fix it" "its just a headlight" "its just a radiator" WTF?!?!?!? people people c`mon!!!

it is not just a radiator, its not just a headlight or just a hood, this car once torn down, will go on a frame machine, the rocker moldings removes, and clamped to the rack

then it pre pulled, WE ALWYAS PREPULL METAL WHEN A CAR IS DAMAGED!!!! WTF?!?!?!

once its prepulled, then we measure as we prepull, becasue the upper frame rails could and might be buckled, lower aprons swayed over or buckled, and possibly the lower frame rails

some shops use car-o-liner racks some shops use chief all have to be computerized here in chicago insurance compaines wnat that, but its good it puts the car back to specs, do you know what i-car wants?? 2-4 mm if your off 5mm not good enough pull more

can you weld?? i highly doubt it, can you read a print out from chiefs measuring system i highly doubt it, do you know how to use a frame rack i doubt it see my point its not that easy

contact insurance let the insurance company handle it, if it totals let it be totaled, trust me you dont want your car fixed once its totaled

so let the tech do our job and fix your car

I hope you felt better after you wrote that than before.

I don't need the car anymore. This is simply speculation to get some decent money from it. I only carry liability insurance on this car, so this one's on me anyhow.

then be prepared to spend close to 3k to fix if not more, and ya i do feel better so sick and tired of seeing people think they know what their talking about when its just thread crapping

Shrug, I'd take it to an alignment shop and see how bad it is. If they can align it, I'd just throw a few parts at it (stop the radiator leak.. hood, etc).

It's not the proper way, but honestly, if you have align it, IMO it's "good enough" and that's all I care about.

It's still mostly safe anyways, just a little compromised structural integrity... I've been driving around with my airbags inoperable for a year or so in the Buick, if I die, I die. lol

Realistically, if you wear seat belts air bags probably aren't a life or death thing, it's the difference between a bruised face and whiplash.

Well, I sure WOULD rather have the bags blow in my face than a good case of whiplash, that's for sure.

Maybe next year I'll try to make the light go out.. it only came on after I put a new cluster in, so maybe it just thinks they don't work. Shrug.. might as well check the module whenever I pull the seats for re-upholstering.
