weird power problem

hey, i dont know what to do right now, my car was whineing recently and the lights were dimmings, my car didnt start a couple of times, and then it did, seemd like there was a problem with my alternator, got it checked, its good, got my battery checkd, its good, my car is getting no power at all through my battery or even my moms, at first when i hook it up, there is only the smallest spark on the negative. but i get no power, then i unhooked it and hooked it up aagain and nothing, not even a spark, now i put my moms battery back in her alero, and NOTHING, no power to her car either. how did my car screw up my moms battery just from hooking it up? i washed my engine bay out last week, what could have caused this? what should i do?

plz help guys, thanks mike.

could be that your alternator shorted and took the battery along with it.

I would swing test a 3rd battery from somewhere else that you are positive is a good battery. If the same thing happens then you know you have a problem other than the battery. When you cleaned your engine did you cover up the important parts i.e. electrical boxes, alternator, battery...they usually don't mix well with water. I've cleaned my engine compartment many times and never had this problem. I would get a second opinion on that alternator. Usually when it starts whining and lights start dimming the electrical brushes inside are failing. good luck.
