A warning when traveling in Ontario

The O.P.P have a new law and 1 that's a couple years old that they are really starting to enforce. This is the new 1, if your are speeding in a construction zone when workers are present fines double. Becareful with this 1 if it's the same as "community saftey zones" any highway traffic act offence is doubled. But I am not sure if it involves all offences or not. The other 1 is that you must move over or slow down for emergency/police stopped on the side of the highway. The fine for a transport is $1000.

No argument here. You'd be surprised how many people won't let a truck out of the right lane for someone stopped on the side of the road.

Yea it's the same in New York, not sure about the fine for not pulling over but the fine doubling for speeding in a work zone is the same here.

It is just common sense, unfortunatly Ontario has some of the stupidest drivers I have EVER effing seen, unfortunatly I drive the 403.QEW Niagara trip everyday. :-?

You'd also be amazed at how many people just drive in the hammer lane and REFUSE to move over for a faster traveling vehicle coming up from behind, even when they are obviously the slowest on the road.

Just double in a work-zone? in IL it starts at $375 in a work zone for a speeding ticket. (that's $300 over normal). But our regular tickets are a bargain compared to most.

I will however keep the Ontario law in my mind as I'll be there next week.

Any 65 zone in jersey is a double fines area. We don't have that law that requires you to move over if someone is pulled over, but its still common courtesy. Though i know down south (VA, NC) that they look for out-of-state plates to pull that on.

so you're saying it's not JUST speeding that gets doubled, but every offence in a work zone gets doubled? Sounds fair...I guess...

I have no idea what the penalty is for "not slowing down when police/emergency vehicles are pulled over" but to be safe, I get in the lane farthes from them, if there's multiple lanes in that direction.

It's common curtousy to pull over for emergency vehicles. Blows my mind that people don't pull over. It's ignorant!

In Michigan all fines are doubled in construction zones. It's also up to $7,500 and 15 years if you injure a construction worker. As for emergency vehicles, if they're moving you have to pull over (duh), and if they're on the side of the road with lights on (even tow trucks now), you have to slow down or move over at least one lane. The one plus is they finally got new signs in most construction zones that say speed limit 45 when workers present. Cops would love to sit there at night when people would race through at 75 figuring there was no one working anyway. Now the limit is still 60, but at least only 45 when they're actually working.

I know about The U.S states having it personally. In Detroit - 65 in a 45 construction zone, at Tireman Ave. on I96 3 miles from the damn bridge. It was 3 am and not a worker in site, but I did the crime I paid the fine. Just wanted to let everyone know that's all. Pretty sure it's only speeding in the construction zone. But we have "Community Saftey Zones" as well and all traffic act fines are doubled in these, taillight out etc.. The moving over law is needed as well as far as am concerned. I used to change truck tires, Had a truck going by knock the trailer off the jack. The idiots in the middle lane are annoying because I get stuck in the truck due to lane restrictions. Coming down the 400 out of Barrie and the low bridges in the right lane cost me a $150 US cb antenna cause a a retired couple in a camper just sitting there. I had 89,000 lbs on my back I couldn't let off the fuel, and they wouldn't give me an inch. Sometime laws are justified workers and emergeny personel shouldn't have to have a constant eye of traffic. It's just there's getting to be some really stupid people just wasting oxygen.
