WOT-tech engine mount

Ok. As most of you know, the shop i brought my car to broke one of the bolts in the engine mount (the one bolted to the engine side). We got that sucker out and i had to switch back to the stock engine mount because when my buddy and i were doing the 3500 swap we stripped the threads out of one of the holes in the WOT-tech mount.

MY QUESTION IS...... has anybody else had any problem with the stiffer engine mount? There is so much pressure on the WOT one compared to the stock one. I just feel like there is too much tension on those bolts that hold the engine up on the little mounting plate that goes from the engine side mount to the one bolted on the frame of the car.

Another thing, the WOT-tech engine mount is made out of low grade aluminum. My friend knows some guys who work in the arsenal and he said he can get one CNC'ed for me out of a higher grade aluminum or hardened steel. Because he said it shouldn't have stripped that easy. We barely had much force on that bolt and it stripped it.

I'm guessing that after it was put on, the forces put on the lower grade aluminum was pushing the plate against the bolts (which ended up causing your stripping problem)... I bet if WOT-Tech used a higher grade aluminum, it would fix the problem, or even steel like you mentioned.

Nothing. He's a good friend of mine so he's gonna hook me up.

And Cav...the stripping problem was when we were putting the one bolt in....not from the force of the engine.

Billet 6061 aluminum is low grade aluminum? If the engine doesn't set right in place and those 2 bolts don't go right in, you have an alignment issue.

I have not had a problem with my mount and have not heard of others with issues.

What torque specs were you tightening the upper plate bolts to or did you just turn it until it was tight and then a 3-4 extra turns until it stripped? Also how many times have you had the mount on and off the car and were you the one that took it off and put it on each time. If the shop over torqued one bolt and it broke, it would give me reason to believe they damaged other threads as well due to over torquing.

I wouldn't consider T-6061 aluminum as "low grade", but yes there are higher grades of aluminum available, such as T-2024 aircraft aluminum. From what I have read T-6061 is used in a lot of automotive products and is even used in certain firearm receivers.

Rather than having one machined out of steel, I would go to mcmaster.com and purchase E-Z Lok inserts for metal. You would need PART #90248A034 Once the E-Z Lok inserts installed in the mount, you should be good as long as you don't over torque it again.

I was the one taking it on and off every time. The shop snapped that bolt but they didn't strip those threads....that was me. I was just putting the bolt in, then i started tightening. It wasn't completely tight when they stripped. My friend was talking about sleeving the hole but idk....i just hope it can hold up, i don't want it coming loose again and then i'm not near home or something. If he can i would rather have one made nice and fresh.

I haven't had any problems with the mount either and it's been in and out a few times.

Did you use your blue painting arm? Still too strong
