Hello.
I'm just joining, I'm not driving my alero, i don't even have it yet, we just purchased it friday and it should be here by the end of this week, is a 2000 GL (hence my usrnm) with the 3.4" engine. it has 57,XXX miles on it and not a spot of rust. i plan on painting or undercoating asap, becouse it will be a year round car. i plan on making it a sleep over the winter and into next falling, trying to obtain around 300hp. im not just another hopeful 18 y.o. i work my ass off and spend large sums on my vehicles while not in college. the vehicle i had was a 1994 3.8L mustang, some underbody rust and a couple pin heads around the back wheels, all loaded down with amps and subs. I still am a "made member" of Allfordmustang.com so i know how this site works.
stuff i want to do to the alero soon , CAI or "turbonator". and add a tuning chip/ tune it as much as safly possible stock. and im going to have to search for some other budget friendly mods to get it up over 200hp this winter (arent they ~185hp stock??)
next summer/ fall i want to get a used (or affordable) turbo kit. and run around 6/7PSI on stock internals (is that safe?).
ok enough of my dreams and lifestory.

LOL, please tell me your joking about the turbonator......
They are 170 hp stock, about 140 at the wheels. Your going to have to do some major upgrades to get her over 200hp. This guy made me laugh while reading the post..... lol

I my self am an 18 year old too, I learned the best thing you can do before trying to get numbers over 300hp is read every bit of info you can find on what you are doing, your best bet is build up the block with forged pistons and rods and have the heads all ported with new valves, springs, retainers, so on and so forth, build a custom turbo and run it a a higher boost level than 8psi but be careful higher boost can mess your engine up. but that's not the end of getting more power, you need a good transmission and a really beefy bank account. I'm sure I've missed a lot of stuff but I know there are other guys that can correct me and add to what I've said.
Oh and Welcome to the site.

i threw the turbonator idea out there and thats kinda what i expected lol.
the turbo, i don't want to to do much more than what is absolutly needed i don't have the time or garage, and yeah, i'de love to break the engine down but with the above and i don't have a secondary means of transportation. i guess i read some of the not so great posts on here about mods. I thought i read on here in a discussion about turbos that someone was running off stock internals at 12psi ( i know thats not the smartest) and how hard is it to put a turbo in i know its not as simple as slapping it in there but don't you have to have boost controls and other interfaces with your computer in order to keep it from running to lean or too rich?

Like I said, no turbocharger kits are available for the 3400.
Sounds like you have a lot to learn about turbocharger systems. Also, PSI is a measure of flow resistance, not of power output. 12 PSI using one turbo may not make the same power as 12 PSI using another, and there is no set specific limit of the capabilities of the stock engine. It's not recommended to exceed a certain horsepower limit without having a built bottom end though. On the LD9s, it's somewhere around 275HP.
The main components of a turbocharger system are as follows: - turbocharger
- wastegate (internal or external)
- exhaust/turbo manifold
- downpipe
- braided oil lines with fittings
- charge piping
- couplers and clamps for pipes
- blow-off valve
- larger fuel injectors
- boost controller
- intercooler (optional, but worth it)
- tuning

see when i first got my mustang i was thinking about that.
another idea thats more for the wow! and "I did it" factor:
can I use a factory Turbo out of some junk car that gives me only a little boost 3-6PSI so i won't have to do much to my engine.
mainly has anyone done that?

You can use whatever turbocharger you want since the manifold and turbo flange are going to be custom anyway, lol.
I can see it. You have to change your settings to "Show my signature." in the User CP.

finding someone that can, fabricate you a manifold and turbo flange may or may not be a challenge, and may or not be costly (depending on who does it). lucky for me my cousin could do that for me and my ecotec for a flat of beer and the cost of materials but why would I do that when there are kits on the market for the ecotec all I would have to do is change the charge piping, and get it tuned.

richies internals are stock (i think?) so hes probably running around that PSI with his setup although if he got forged internals he could easily crank that up

I'm personally not going the turbo route, but it is an option.
