Led dash backlights

hello all, been awhile since i've posted here, but i got a question on the bulbs behind the dash. I know this has been in a previous thread, which i read. but when i took apart my dash, i found two different size bulbs. there were 5 194 bulbs i believe, i replaced them with the 194 leds i got, but there were like 4 or so other bulbs, smaller. any ideas on the size?

you can just replace all the bulbs with LED's, doesnt have to be the 194's.

what i did was just take the original bulbs out, used LED's with resistors on them and soldered them on the "condom" and make sure the tips of the LED's were flat to difuse the light more evenly and make sure they are in the middle and not crooked or else the light will be un even.

do a little bit more searching and look through the How to section for the guide and it will tell you what to do step by step and with pics

is that what you are going for? if so, then its just the 6 194's you'll need to change, dont worry about the small ones

the smaller ones are the lights for turning, the center shift lights, and hazard lights...

not sure about the size.. technically, you COULD replace those w/ 3mm Leds... but again, you'd need resistors.

I've thought about it... and thanks to albinomonkeyrat, i have an extra dash circuit board to play with... the only down side, is i'd have to play with which wires are hot and ground to get a good current through the system. (enter da haynes manual, but i'm kinda lazy lately. maybe a later summer project)

you didn't sand the ends of the leds flat.. thats the problem in that pic. you'll get "hot spots" of where the light is more concentrated. Sand them down, (just the curved end) and that'll go away.

thats mine w/ the ends sanded...
