After having my cd player and subs sitting in the closet for 3+ months, I decided to get it installed today. Well, it didn't turn out so well. I'm pissed. First of all, I lost the wiring kit somewhere when I was moving so that raised the price of the install from 50 bucks to 175 including labor and taxes. Then they tell me the box won't fit in the trunk but it fit in there perfectly on the way to the shop. That's minor because I can get a new box but anyway, I didn't get my subs installed. They mounted the factory deck in the trunk behind the lining. Everything looks clean and they did a good job, appearance wise. But now, when I turn the car off, the radio goes off and makes a really loud static noise. I don't have any door chimes or anything like that. I thought the kit was supposed to let me keep the chimes? Plus, there is NO bass at all. Granted, I know the factory systems don't have much bass but now I have NONE at all. Treble rebel. I talked to a friend of mine and he looked at it. He knows quite a bit about car audio but he isn't familiar with the RDS and all that. Is there an easy fix to this that my friend may be able to do or do I need to go back to the shop and practice some country kung fu on their asses? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

why do people refer to RDS as it's some magical sound enhancement. all it does is retrieve station text information while listening to the radio, and it doesnt even do it very well.

so you had your box in the trunk on the way over and then they said it wouldnt fit? you should have left and went somewhere else.

and you say you had the stock radio mounted in the trunk... just curious why.

i'm not sure about the static noise you're getting, or why you're not getting chimes.

and i know you arent stupid, but did you try adjusting the treble/bass? and are the crossover frequencies adjustable?

Probably should have. But the place I went to is the same place that I've always went to, and all my friends have as well. It's a very trusted and well known shop.

Doesn't make sense to me either. I thought with the wiring kit they used, that I wouldn't need to have it mounted. But I'm not the one that gets paid to do this kind of stuff so I took their word for it.

I read the manual before even touching the deck. I adjusted everything how it should've been. My friend double checked the adjustments and said that it's right.

The factory deck is mounted in the trunk. The cd player I bought is up front. I'll go take a picture of the trunk.

ok, well i dont know what to tell you, i have no idea why they'd do that.

the factory HU is just gonna get messed up right there. and i wouldnt try to play a cd in it either.

again, i'm still confused... it's back there, and connected and everything?

The factory head unit is mounted in the trunk with a wiring harness connecting it to the aftermarket deck, somehow under the carpet and door panels in the car, I think. I have no idea really where it's connected to but I'm assuming it's connected to the cd player. I'm just as confused as you are. But this is the thread that I was directed to when I first bought the cd player back in May. Maybe that will help you understand it more. Myself, I have a monthly miagrane and I'm just ready to say f*** it. It just pisses me off that I paid $175.07 (can't forget the 7 cents) to have a cd player installed that I already paid $165 for and the sound quality isn't worth a poop. Let me try to explain the static noise. You know fuzzy sound you get from a tv when the station goes off the air? That's what I'm getting out of my speakers when I turn the car off. It's not constant. It goes off when I open the door but still, it shouldn't be doing it. Even I know that.

Also, the factory deck is mounted pretty solid. It's not going anywhere. And I don't think it would be a good idea to try playing anything in it either. However, the lights are still on, on the factory deck.

hmmm sounds like the RAP is on with the stock radio, but since your sound is coming from the aftermarket deck, it's just static till you open the door.

i think i'd rather sacrifice the chimes and put the stock deck in your closet or up on ebay.

luckily i dont have RAP or a class II chime system.

sorry, i'm not being of any help, i seriously dont know what to tell you, hopefully jabartram can help.

Yeah, that's the same link I used earlier. So, I'm thinking I should just take it back to the shop, tell them to take the factory deck out and just not have any chimes. Any suggestions?

I was kinda hoping there was something I could do without having to buy another one though. Or at least something I could do until I can afford getting a new one. I guess I'll just be opening the door before I turn the car off for a while.

hey jabartram... with the class II module, she wont need the factory deck in the trunk right? so she can have it taken out, and live with no chimes till she gets cash for the classII module.

The class 2 module is what lets you still have the factory chimes, without the factory deck. and it's only like 50.00$ I'll loan you the cash if needed?
