Im going to disagree and go with SKF.
The SKF bearings I purchased through Murrays/O'Reiley's come with a 2 year warranty. The Timkens only a 1 year.
As far as quality goes- Timken and SKF are the major players in the Taper Roller Bearing scene, we use both brands at my work (big bearings yo).

after you do the rotors... this is one step futher into the car. Very easy to do (with a big breaker bar and proper socket)

As a German I of course say SKF
But I have the wheel bearings from Federal Mogul and the bearing they use is from SKF (thats why its pretty expensive)

well three years later, and a couple 100t km on it. Guess what I am in the market for new ones
Is there any new wisdom about the quality and value of offered parts?

Of course, but it was the best and most fitting thread I knew of so far.
And a little grave digging and hence notifications to all that already wrote here is always a plus
So, still no new info other that SKF, National and Timken are top of the notch?
Btw replacing bearing after 70k, I would not consider a good thing.

The wheel bearings in my 1995 Escort are the originals at 214K miles, and I would consider that to be normal. I'd complain if they only lasted 3 years.

alright, ordered some Timken bearings via Amazon yesterday.
Amazon says, will be here 08.05 to 08.20
But thanks to a cunning eye and pointless hours or scrounging I found I could get 'em without having to pay customs
On the other hand, I thought so far, my pass. side bearing is shot. But now I tested and found my driver bearing shot.
I wonder why??!!
Can a slight misaligned toe-setting cause additional stress on the bearing?
