Ok, first off the HIDs in the Alero work just fine with their stock headlamps. The headlamps in the Alero pass E-Code certification for the beam pattern. Those headlamps tend to be quite acceptable with the HID conversion kits versus the DOT approved garbage that some cars get (I highly doubt the Grand Am has E-Code approval). Also, projectors or not it's just as illegal to put a different light source than originally intended for that headlamp.

I have 4300°K HIDs in my Alero and I've never had anyone flash their lights at me etc.. because they were affected by any glare or stray light.

Because projectors are meant to focus the light to a certain area and with a set height so it doesn't spew all over the place and blind others. You can physically fit the bulbs in there and make your headlights really bright but they're not focussed. With halogen bulbs the light is aimed down, and the amount of light that spews from it is not enough to blind others at night. Since HIDs are brighter they need to be more focussed so you only light up the road and not the drivers in the oncoming lane.

When you guys are putting HIDs in your car and you get more visibility, you're realistically only taking advantage of about 25% of the difference between HID to Halogen. Which is why I say it's a half ass mod. There have been other members that have put projectors in their car.

At least in the HID bulbs that I have used, they are precisely aimed so that the HID capsule is in the same exact place as the halogen filament. You can still have badly focused projectors.

Some of the stuff he is saying are true, I did notice that the light is not very focused and yeah rarely people blind me back when they see the HID's so yeah he has a point there but they work pretty much o.k...

Isn't the whole point of this site to be a DIY and for others to offer advice? Majority of you have already taken apart your assemblies to clear your corners, why not jerry rig some projectors in there? That's what I was planning on doing to my Alero.

for someone who claims to be a car genius you should take the initiative and help others with the mod and lead by example by doing it on your car. Instead of acting like a 6 year old that had their lollipop taken away.

yea but trust me, the projector makes the kit look 100x better. Go projector and snag some hids off oznium. At ASS i had the 8k kit in from him. If you dont do projectors they will work just fine. My acura has the HID's now and i dont get flashed. Just aim your headlight down a bit if its that big of a concern.

Now thats classic..

Im not saying projectors are crap.. it just not needed terribly..

And since it is sooo hard to put in DIY projectors.. I say why bother..

You are correct, projectors would make a big diff. and would focus it where you need it more..

But your being anal..

I would not argue with you if we all had a thousand different headlight enclosures with projectors in it.. like civics do..

But since its a bitch to make them, (and time consuming, and expensive)

I say baahhh.. the hell with it untill I have the time to make some..

The are perfectly acceptable reflecting.. and are much better than ANY halogen could be ever...

But telling everyone they are "half assing" it.. come on..

We own aleros.. we have to sacrifice a little because there is almost no aftermarket for it.. Understand ?

Dont belittle us because you have moved on to a better car..

ENCOURAGE US.. be a positive influence..
