Complex Installation
Um,
I think. See, I wired my sub and Legacy amp (Yes, it sucks, I know) toa 99 Silverado with a Kenwood stereo. It turned out nice and at the time, powered one Sony 10" Sub (Yes, Sony sucks as well, lol) It was working great, so Istepped up and got two Jensen 12" Subs (Must I continue ^_^') So it isn't the highest of setups but it works nice and I got what I expected. But now, since I bought my Alero (Ha, bought....still paying it >_>') I don't drive the truck. So I was thinking of doing a sound transplant (LMAO) But a few days ago, when I checked the truck, the Amp won't up the speakers, not even just one. I'm pretty sure it's not burned out, my uncle says it is cause it gets no air or too much vibration (It's on top of the 3 foot long box!) But it worked fine before. The speakers make a static sound and then, suddenly work for like 10 seconds and again out. So before I do this operation, I must talk to the Gurus here and seek advice on what path to choose.
Oh, and also, I still have the Stock radio, can it hold an Amp?

On the truck?
Yea, I have the RCA's in there. I also think those might have something to with the sound.

Your overall question is a little confusing, maybe just terminology, but I would start my checking my wiring, making sure nothing is improperly hooked up,...ie shorted. If all of a sudden you are just having these problems then any problem with the wiring should stick out. If it isn't in the wiring that then you have to start eliminating equipment. Start with the Amp, and swap it out with a diferent one if you have one doesn't have to be the same because we are seeing if the problem presist..make sure you turn the levels mid way as to not damage the good amp or the subs...if not then move to the head unit...really before all of this start with the subs make sure that you can move the cone with your hand if it stays down when you push it in or feels like its not springy then its probably fried. Just a few things to try. If you have a DMM then you cold also check voltages to make sure you are getting enough power, and check to see if there is output from the amp...same for the head unit.

See,
On the truck, the setup used to work great for a week or two. Then, then it begin messing up. So I unplugged the Amp, checked it, seems ok, checked the wiring. Replugged everything back in, checked my fuses all is good. The Amp gets power but then the resistor/protector starts flashing (The little red light next to the green power light) and it doesn't flash in sequence, just like it is short circuiting, but it isn't. The amp works, cones move, etc.
I've decided to get a new wiring package for the Alero, so till then, I'll know it it was the wiring, or the Amp itself.
Also, does the stock unit on the Alero support RCA cables?

No you have to get a line output converter. very easy to install, but why not get a cheap deck? Then you'll have the rca outputs, and shouldn't have to break the bank.

That protection is usually a thermal protector when the ambient temp of the amp reaches a certain temp it shuts the amp down until it cools. Post a pic of your amp or get the model number and post.

This seems to be it, but I think mine is a bit longer and only 500 Watts. And Lonnie, yea you're right, it is a thermal protector so I'm leaning towards the side that the Amp isn't getting enough air.

Mine didn't come with the 2 channel gray thing on there. Just the Amp.

It could be that you ohmed the amp to low and it's making the amp go into protection. I think that amp is only rated a 4ohm load.

Mounting amps to boxes is a no no.
Im willing to guess its something inside the amp. Not only is the amp crafted by 10 year olds for a half bowl of rice per day, well wait thats all I got really. Its a cheap amp built cheap. Chances are something on the PCB probably broke loose.
