Motor Clank

Well,

There is this banging sound on the motor whenever it starts cold, after a few minutes, it ceases. Still, it's annoying, what could it be?

mine does that too. its just a poor design of the engine and I've had to learn to get used to it. try to wait for the loud noises to stop before you drive it. somebody told me that its the lifters that get worn and are a bit noisy when cold.

Yea,

It's not the muffler. You can feel it hitting the top of the engine, I think it might be the lifters. And now I think I might need to replace my gas pump as well lol.

why do you think you need a new gas pump? have you tried a fuel system/fuel injector cleaner?

Nah,

Back in my Autozone days, people always said they didn't work. But I might try one. I don't think I'm getting the proper gas mileage and sometimes a hissing occurs.

Nope,

I got an ol' buddy of mine that checked the systems, and no codes came up.

But lately, it's not there anymore, no more hissing. I'll still add the cleaner though, just to help.

when you get the cleaner, get a name brand. it does work because it saved my dad's astro van. we had the 1,3,5 cylindar injector pack freeze up and we ran the injector cleaner through and no problems since. i used it on my alero when i bought it and it made my engine run MUCH smoother.

Do you use 5w30 oil or 10w30 because i asked the question at the gm dealership once why my car was recomended for 5w30 rather than 10w30 and the response was that my lifters were machined so tightly that a 10w30 wont get into tighter areas to lubricate and mine were tapping so the guy at the dealership told me to run 0w30 until the tapping stopped then change back to 5w30 and it worked so that could be the case. finicky cars!

Ah,

No, I used 10-30 and now when I think about it, the first days it helped, then the tapping came back. That is probably what it is. I'll use 0 or 5-30. Many thanks, Jferg.

its know as piston slap its because gm didn't design are motors right there to much of a gap between the piston and the cylinder wall, all 3400 make this noice
go to http://www.pistonslap.com that will tell you all about why
