where can i install my speedhut guage switch?

Ok I got my guages in this past weekend and hooked the power into the cubby light so it turns on and off when the cubby light does (Thanks Chris). But I have no idea where to put the switch that came with it. It's to big to fit in the kit space part under my cd player and the switch has the wierd screw things on the top at a 90* angle. SO here's some pics. PLEASE GIVE ME IDEAS!

If I put it in the cubby thing below how can I fun the wire since the wires are not long enough to reach that?

Now some guage pics:

I have mine ran down and mounted sort of by the hood latch or where they would plug into you PCM just below the dash by your left leg.

Hey, I posted a question in the how to about wiring up the gauges. I was wondering if you could take pictures to shoe me where you wired your transformer up at. Also if you could I would find a way to see if you could get a new change cup or cut your curent one with a dremel to the right size and just slide it in there. The one under the dimmer switch.

lmao me too, But anyways, is it that big of a deal if it sticks out a little like that???? i mean my switch comes down about 3-4 inches, double sided tape doesnt hold it on the dash cause its at an angle, so i just deal with it, its not that big of a deal. But it would look better appearance wise if it was mounted. But w/e, im not gonna keep rambling onlol

I ran the wires to the right of the dash through a gap and took out my cd player and stuff to get behind there to the cubby hole bulb. I cut the wire to the cubby lightbulb (the one that turns on and off w/the sunlight), and soldiered the power wires from the inverter onto the light bulb wires (black to black, red to gray). Just make sure to soldier the 3 black wire together (the one fromt he inverter and the two that were cut apart) and the red wire from the inverter to the 2 gray wires. And since you hooked it up to the cubby bulb ur dimmer switch will work for that also. the only thing is that the dials lights are off during the day but i can still see my guages just fine.

I put it around my steering wheel! I don't think it's the safest thing to have there since when the guages go on i can get shocked (have a couple of time already) from trying to fumble w/the switch and touching the back of the switch w/all the wires. So i did it temporary till I can get some advice on where to mount it or how to extend the wires so i can mount it in the change cubby. Like do i just use regular red black wire or all the red wire or does it f*cking matter? LOL

Look on the wire and see if you can find out what gauge wire is used on the inverter and then go to some place like radio shack or something and buy some wire, the color shouldn't matter as long as you can remember what is what, then you should be able to extend your wires so that you can put it in the change cup.

Tearing into Dash

OK, I would really like do change my gauges like that but I am terrified of "forking" up my dash. Is it hard to tear into the dash....and is it worth it!

I would love to be able to find someone to do that mod for me!

well doing that isn't that hard... just remove the black trim that's around it... It just pops on out... then I think you just unscrew the cluster and it pops on out... other than that, I'm not sure. lol I've never taking mine out...

no insult to kim (even though it is) but if she can do it alone, you shouldn't have a problem. lol

by the looks of it, you'd have to extend like 5 wires? as long as you know which is which, its not a problem what color they are. just do them one at a time.

personally, i'd probably join the wires that need to be connected for it to always be on (w/ the cubby light) and just disconnect the switch all together. it doesn't seem to have much purpose w/ the way you have it connected. it can ONLY be turned on when its dark enough for your courtesy lights to turn on, why would you want a switch on that anyway?

the switch is there for 'tards who wired it into constant power. (another kick at kim who did that initially. )

the switch for my gauges is just chillen in the little cubby hole under the dome light switch. Its outa site and I really never change the color of mine from the blue. But its possible still.

if youre talking about the switch she has in the pic it's to change it from one color to another, not to turn it on or off

you can also dim or brighten it with the n00b on there, and for long dist driving its best to dim your gauges as much as you can, it can dim it or brighten it beyond what the stock dimmer does

THat's pretty cool did you just run ur wires on the outside against the dash thing? And then just screw it right in? I think it's a good idea to do w/it. Or maybe I'll just wire it in the change cubby. Haven't decided and have till the weekend too. Thanks!

i know what the damn thing does. lol i'm just saying i don't see a purpose of it, since there is a good chance shes NEVER use the blue, and if you find a good setting for the dimmer, just figure out what resistance that is, and use that.

i have backlit gauges that are brighter then standard, and i've never had a reason to dim them...

but thats not a bad place to mount that, that or a cubby has got to be the best places.
