are the c6z rotors the ones on the '09 CTS-V?

I'm not sure about the '09 V. The C6 Z06 rotors appear to be the same spec as the previous V except with 5 lugs instead of 6.

I know this thread is old as dirt... But I have a few questions for those that did this mod.

1. How does the stock Alero master cylinder and proportional valve work with the bigger front brakes.

2. What options are there for the rear brakes?

I didn't touch my master cyl, except to add more brake fliud after bleeding the calipers.

I used the Corvette Brakes from the 94 Vette on mine. I did reverse the rear calipers**RT is LFT and LFT is right** to make the mounting a little cleaner. Also, used the Vette spindles with the GA hubs welded to it. Have 1/8" spacers between the hubs and the rotors on the front to center the pads over the rotors. I have to drill my own bolt pattern into the rotors but having access to a dril press makes it a 20 min job, so not bad at all. With this set up there is no problem with the rims at all.

Thanks Caboose! I'm assuming that if they fit the older style GLS rims, they'll probably fit the newer style

They absolutely do. I ran my new style 01 GLS wheels with the vette calipers for two winters.

Keep in mind that a stock Alero spare will not fit over these brakes.

I picked up a 16 inch spare from a 02 Impala, I haven't test fitted it yet, but I had to adjust my e brake shoes soon. I'll do it then

funny you should mention that. I was thinking about that at work today. And I came to the same conclusion as you with the impala spare. Thanks for the heads up

Yeah but like I said, I haven't test fitted it yet.

I got it on my local CL for $20, with zero miles on it. It does fit in the tire well, but the lid will not fit over it well, without a little bit of weight. Mine fits now, because my kid's stroller is always in the trunk

Or you can just shuffle an extra wheel back to front. Remove a good one from the rear, install spare, install good wheel on front. Easy.

As you should anyway for safety... I just laugh every time I see someone with the spare "donut" on the front wheels... I know they are a strong tire and everything, but just the simple fact they are only 1/2 the width scares me to have it on the front... especially if you are on a highway... for me, the spare has always gone on the back, even if it means another wheels swap to do so...

Most owner's manuals tell you to put the donut on the back regardless, with a front wheel drive car. Not so much for the safety aspect (it's actually best for panic stop situations to have better traction in the rear than in the front), but because of the overall tire height difference, putting it on the front can cause premature wear on your differential, and other parts. And if you've upgraded to a limited slip, running different tire heights on the front is the fastest way to ruin it.
