Official Timeslips W/o Rollcage?

I have a friend who's dad built an '83 mustang with a supercharged 351 and a 250+ shot of nitrous, 4.11's out back. the thing is pretty flippin' quick. he's managed to keep it pretty stock looking and doesn't want to put a rollcage in it but he also wants to take it to the track to get a legit timeslip for it. with some ghetto rigged equipment consisting mainly of handheld stopwatches he's estimated the car to be a legit high 8 second car which many tracks will not allow to run without the proper safety equipment. any tracks that don't care?

no track will allow him to race it, and if he says its not that fast, then lays down an 8 second run, i almost will guarantee he will be banned from the track for life....safety first, second, third, and on. plus why is it so important to not put a roll cage in, its one of the few inexpensive safety features u put on a car (racing seats usually end up being more expensive after they are installed)

Yeah at tech they will be able to tell it's an 8 second car and won't even let him race it.

I would think a roll cage would be easy to get and install in any Mustang

Not only is a rollcage, driveshaft loop, trans shield, and a host of other stuff an absolute requirement (a track can lose its operating license for willingfully and knowingly allowing a car without the state insurance-required safety equipment to race down the track. It's more the insurance than it is the governing body - NHRA, IHRA, etc.), but a rollcage actually makes the car more rigid which, in turn, can make the car much faster.

I've seen cars that produced so much torque that it literally twisted the body. Rollcages will prevent that and allow for more power to be directed to the pavement instead of to the body.

Have him put in a rollcage and all of the safety equipment.
#1 - you'll be safer
#2 - the car will go faster
#3 - the car will not get banned from every racetrack that it tries to run at

Its for the appearance. with the exception of bigger meats, the car looks stock unless you pop the hood. I guess he's going for the ultimate sleeper. If someone spots a rollcage in the interior they will know that something's up. He and I pretty much already knew that tracks wouldn't let him race but I thought maybe there were some out there that would let him sign a waiver or something so if he killed himself it wouldn't affect them... oh well that's what he's assuming anyway no big dissapointment i just thought I'd check thanks.

I would just put the cage in personally, being that it would be cheaper, safer, smarter and probably help the car more than keeping a "sleeper" appearance. But, to each their own.

put in the rollcage, and dangle some loose wires off of it. just say that you're in the middle of putting in a HUGE stereo setup. lol

if i see a mustang, the last thing i would think of is it being a sleeper because its built to be fast. Its like on that show ride w/ funk master flex when they did a thing on sleepers and all the cars had body kits and there was even a Porche. But I would agree with the roll cage, safety is a good thing, on top of style. Plus it can help with performance. And if you put the money in the car to get an 8second run, why ruin it by destroying the car because you wanted it to look a certain way?

Wow I feel stupid for not thinking of that myself... its black so he could get the silver mirror tint or something and look badass! He has maybe thought of it but I'll point it out anyway and good point about it being a mustang too & kind of not a sleeper to begin with...

Another something to point out to your buddy is the tire size. He's not going to be able to safely make a pass (rollcage or not) on the standard stock size tires. Even 10 1/2" slicks are a little too narrow for a safe 8-second pass. If he's serious about running the car full out he needs a large set of meats for it.
