Alright....I am getting quite a few mods installed on may 9th and I already have a lotta stuff...what do you all think I'll be running in the 1/4 after they're all put on. I live in Peoria, IL (center of state) and it'll be about 75 degrees when I go to the track w/ pry low humidity.

3400 SFI V6 Motor...
My mods:
Dr. Speed Stage 3 CAI (w/ inverted top K&N filter)
SLP Catback Exhaust
S&S Headers (coated) w/ dowpipe
Magnaflow Highflow Cat
RSM 62mm TB
Pro-M MAF
ZZP Mini AFC 2.0 (added 21 whp to my friend's grand prix..dyno proven)
MSD 8.5mm Wires
RSM Engine/Tranny Mount
B&M ShiftPlus
Maintenence:
NGK Copper Core Spark Plugs
Royal Purple Fully Synthetic Tranny Fluid
Royal Purple Fully Synthetic Engine Oil
Recently Flushed out Coolant system
New Fuel Filter
Other Stuff that may hurt/help:
17" Rims
235/45/17 Nitto NT-555 Tires (awesome traction off the line)
2" ST Lowering Kit w/ KYB struts
2 Door Alero
Will be removing back seat and side panels and having no spare tire or jack
I don't have any subs or system in the trunk
1/4 or less tank of gas

Thanks guys!

P.S. I ran a 15.69 last fall w/ my steel wheels and I only had NaichSpeed (smaller diameter inake pipe than Dr. Speed)/SLP/Tranny Mount/B&M...and my air filter was a generic brand cone style...and none of that maintenence work had been done yet...

Run the car with 1/4-tank of gas or less to keep the front-to-rear weight ratio biased towards the front driving wheels.

You should at least be very low 15's, possibly high 14's, with proper traction. Depends on what trans you have (auto or manual) and at what RPM you launch at.

3400's only have auto trans....I'll pry launch at 2500-3000 and have ZERO wheel spin...this track is grippy as hell and my tires kickass

The stock convertor stall speed in most cars is less than 2000rpm. You might overpower the brakes when doing that, or at least warp them a little.

An NHRA Stock Eliminator racer I used to work with at RP told me a secret to auto trans launches, and that is to launch the car at 400-500 RPMs LESS than the stall speed. If you have a Street Fighter 2200-2500 Convertor that launches your particular set-up at 2300rpm, foot brake it to 1900. The few hundred RPM's "shocks" the convertor and results in harder, more consistent launches. If you have a stock convertor that launches your car at 1800, footbrake it to 1400. It worked wonders for my 12-second '77 Camaro.

Also, when you line up at the starting line, try to put your front tires directly in line with the darkest rubber strips that are already there from previous slick cars (That's called "running in the groove"). That'll help your traction, even if you don't think you need it.

I've launched over 3,000 before...the car doesnt move one bit....BUT i know what you're talking about because sometimes it feel like it launches better when I just launch at like 1500....it makes sense...thanks for the tips..I'll try that running in the groove thing

Pull out your driver's side foglight and the fender liner too. This will give a straight thru airflow for your CAI.

*A Redog Secert*

2 10 mm bolts hold in the foglight and serveral hold the liner in along with some bodyplugs. If you remove the headlight everything is easy to get to

Was your friends GP a GTP or GT? If it was a GTP then only expect a fraction of hp increase with the mini-afc. Even GT's get maybe 10whp gains with it. GTP's get a lot because of the s/c.

His was just a GT and he got 21whp....and it's a 1997 w/ 140,000 miles on it.

Redog, I already have the fog taken out lol....But good call on the inner fender liner for straight through flow.

If i run a 15.3 I will crap myself and trade my car in......................lol.

I'd be pissed cuz I just spent well over a grand for like less than a 1/2 second gain. My friends' (both of them!) stock Grand Am GT would still beat me.

Wow...that's pretty impressive. Do you know what other mods he had? The zzp mini afc is a nice little toy.
