I want to put a dual exhaust on my 02 Alero GLS, but I am not sure what to go with. I am more concerned with adding power, than looks. However, I still want it to look nice. What do you guys recommend for exhaust. I was thinking SLP exhaust?

IMO, i would go with a Y after the axle, and go with two oval canisters with oval tips(thats the set-up im switching to anyways)...im tired of the SLP, and want more sound...my local speed shop hooked me up with the Y, which anyone with a welder could do for ya...and the oval canisters im going with are avail on ebay for 40 shipped

this type will flow more then anything except straight pipe

Which canisters are you going with & what do they sound like? Do you have a link to them?

Does anyone know how the SLP muffler is constructed? guessing on how people say it sounds a little raspy, I'd guess that it's chambered. You could probably get a little more flow and sound out of a Magnaflow, Dynomax Ultra-Flo or a Hooker Aero Chamber muffler if you wanted a single inlet dual outlet. If you just want a small straight muffler, the one i like is the Moroso Spiral-Flow, or you could go with the Car-Chemistry insert.

go custom with magnaflow or flowmaster if you like the flowmaster sound.

edit:

exhaust is for sound/looks. you'll get little to no performance out of it.

uhh, exhausts do make power, but they do best with supporting mods... oh and a y pipe could possibly flow LESS than a straight pipe and straight through muffler, not sure if thats what you meant by striaght pipe as that usually means no muffler but i just thought i would touch on that

what have you done to your car so far and what do you plan on doing?

if you're looking to get the most power out of it without adding headers, get the exhaust done from the stock manifolds back, including replacing the stock downpipe. then you add a high flow cat, resonator and since you want duals, a Y-pipe to 2 straight thru mufflers....either round canisters or oval shaped with your choice of tips...2.5" piping throughout. as jturkey69 said, that will pretty much have the best flow you can get, with only a single exit being better.

and its not that a y-pipe with duals will make you lose power, you'll gain power from an entire exhaust, you just wont gain anything with duals over a single exit.

heres the e-gay link...i do love the price, and they will fit the razzi opening perfect
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...TRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

spilner...i agree

the reasons im also doing is for one, i plan on going boosted, and two, last year and the year before at ASS, we all sounded the same, with a few exceptions either being headers, or borla...flowmasters and magnaflows sound alot like the slp, and i want a bit more lower tone when the rpm's go up....thats just personal preference on my part though

hey turk, i found a guy a while back who ran duals like that, on an older monte carlo, like early 90's with a 3.1 i think (maybe 3.4?) but anyways, it sounded a lot better than my flowmaster setup.

you could also try using vibrant mufflers. they're a little more expensive, but they're great quality and they're all straight thru perforated core mufflers for the best flow. there's a bunch of different sizes even flat black mufflers so that they're not noticable. i've seen a setup on a new Subaru Legacy GT....all 3" piping, dual flat black mufflers and stock looking chrome tips. if you didnt know it had an aftermarket exhaust, you'd never be able to tell. here's a link to an ebay store that has a lot of the vibrant mufflers at decent prices http://stores.ebay.com/Verocious-Motorspor...idZ2QQpZ3QQtZkm

now that i go back and read that ^^ it sounds like a vibrant performance advertisement :P

If someone could can you post some sound clips of different exhaust on the alero because exaust sounds different on different cars. I know sweetnlow has dual 40 series flows if you could get a soundclip up for us. I also wouldnt mind flow 80, borla and magnaflow so I can hear the different. Rev it a few times to because I hate when your listening to a sound clip and its in idle the whole 5 minutes.

i can get one for my new set-up when it gets done, but remember, all cars will sound different from a cold engine to a warm one due to fuel enrichment
someone did post a link for sound clips awhile back, but i dont remember where
