I was just gonna ask whether or not the 8 cyl. from an olds aurora would fit into the alero hood cause me and a buddy of mine think it would cause he dropped a 305 into his 93 cavalier. Just wondering if some of you guys that know about this stuff think it would fit and be worth doing.

i think the general response that you're going to get from everyone is that "anything is possible with enough money" but it probably wont be easy

Hmm, tough questions
#1. Yes it would fit
#2. Not without a healthy amount of work
Technically I'm not a guy who knows much about it since I've never done an engine swap on my alero :P so it totally depends on how much money you want to spend/labor you want to do yourself/skill you have to determine if its worth it or not

...missouri but im just saying i have the money to do the swap but would it be worth my time to just do stuff to the 3.4 liter 6 or put a new more powerful engine in it and then work on that

I think it would cost way too much money and time to convert the alero so it could run a V8. I even think the supercharger is over rated for our cars and way over priced.

talk to chucklez, he's about to do the v8 swap, but he's also a mechanic, or training to be one, so he's getting a deal on the labor by doing it himself so he can charge himself whatever he wants

But chucklez is also making his RWD, wheras the Aurora V8 is of course a front driver like the alero's

Yea, I'm thinking about 65 or 70 bucks an hours sounds about right.
I'm actually just finishing school for auto body but one of my majors was street rod and custom fabrication which is were i learned most of what im going to need to know to do this.

Actually in my opinion if you were going to keep it front wheel drive just swap out the engine for a aurora engine, if you kept the tranny that came with the engine, your bigest absticle would be the wiring and dealing with the PCM and BCM, and suspeinsion work and would have to have custom drive axles made.
But either way the biggest thing is if you arn't doing it yourself the amount of money needed to pay someone to do it, and if you are doing it yourself it would be considerably cheaper but would requre i decent about of time do to it.

if you are gonna do a northstar engine, just do the 4.6 from a caddy like they did with the 442 alero

Ditto. The only reason not to would be if you wanted to stick with Oldsmobile power, which I would not care about but could understand if someone else did.

Pfft.. who needs these DOHC engines? I'm all for the pushrod 5.3L LS4 with DOD... (though.. it is a newer engine and would cost much more).

^^ its all a matter of oppinion which you would rather have, i know that some cadi's out there would kick the poop out of some rwd v-8 cars, and plus don't knock the northstars, ask oldsman how much power they were able to build out of those little 4.6 northstars they put in the 442 alero and intrigue, they claim some pretty high numbers but he thinks it was even higher

I'm not dissing the engine itself, I'm just saying that if you had 2 engines that put out exactly the same power/torque etc. I would want mine in rear wheel drive format as opposed to FWD...I know the N* packs a punch
