security light

ok im not sure if anyone has posted the solution to the security light problem but i think i found out what it is.

i went to the chevy dealer to day to get all the plastic parts for the window

(mine finally broke on me) but i asked the guy has he heard of the car not

starting for 10 minutes when that light comes on. well needless to say he

had and he asked me was i able to pull my key out when it was started and i

told him i could. apparently there is a magnetic sensor inside of the ignition

cylinder that tells the car that there is a key in . and he said that more than

likely it has gone bad. he also said he has replaced alot of them in aleros and

grand am's the only thing is it cost about 230$ so if you dont mind payin

the money and your pissed with the light go for it i am cause that shit aint

cool when you out with a girl and your car wont start especially when its

cold and i live in detroit so it gets cold as hell hope this helps.

Welcome to the Site! I think that generally it has been posted that any problems with the passlock II or ignition cylinder the whole thing needs to be replaced...I think that 230 is for the whole cylinder. Thanks for the added info though!

When I had that problem, I just gave it a jump, and I guess it shocked the system, lol. (I was stranded and it was cold all else failed)

Ryan from Ohio will become famous soon enough
Find the wires for the lock cylinder and figure what it is with the key installed (close loop or open) and make it so with the wires on the outside. Never have this problem again!

Stupid nonsense senors..
