i drive a 2.4L and i have no clue on how to take the valve covers of these damn things. after i pulled the bolts out, i thought they were just soo tight near the chain and cam cover. but i tried prying them with pry bars and they r flexing. how do i get them off?

I think he is talking about the valve covers, but I have no idea what else would be holding them down.

you have to remove the motor mount and then the timing chain cover in order to get to the other 2 bolt for the cam covers. if you are flexing the cam cover, like you say. buy a new one to replace that one. it cracks easily. you also have to remove the bolts for the cam cover and housing a certain way or they will flex and crack. i would recommend you STOP what you are doing and go buy a haynes manual and do some reading because you are going to cost yourself a lot of money if you continue with your current method.

oh those 2 bolts that hold the cover on you have to access thru the cam gear. 2 bolts on the top side of the cam, holding cover and 2 on the bottom holding the housing. but at that point you should remove the chain and cam gears but make sure you have the motor at TDC on #1 cylinder.

Like I said..............go buy a manual it will explain everythng.

Why are tearing it down? headgasket issue or something?

oh the 2.4 does not have valve covers they have cam covers. for those who may not be familiar with the Quad

thanks oldsman u answerd my question well. lol i was a bit tired when i wrote this so i was in a hurry. yes i mean the cam covers. i wasn't quite sure if there were any bolts holding them on because i'm not that far yet. with my friends car i didnt have to remove the belt or the gears to remove the cover. it just came right off after removing the top bolts. thats y i was soo confused. never worked on my engine before.
