So those Philips bulbs arent actually available in stores anywhere? Screw that then, I'm not paying shipping for some simple headlight bulbs <_<

Edit: forumula is right, any time there is any sort of coating on the bulb, it takes away from the actual brightness of the bulb (that sparkly coating on Silverstars included). But that's fine, because the Silverstar's are still a bright white color to the naked eye and thats all I'm really looking for...

Double Edit!: formula, do you have said Philips Vision Plus bulbs? And if so, we need some pics please kthxbye

Yeah, I had those Nokya ones as well. I got them off ebay like 2 years ago. They actually lasted me much longer than my Eurolite bulbs, but still eventually fried the harness. I was sort of impressed with they way they looked though, and they did last longer than other high watt bulbs.

I read the thread, but from what I can gather, the Philips vision plus bulb doesn't give off blue light (sounds like beer to me :P ), am I correct?

Naich, did you get the same bulb as MAlero?

MAlero «I got Nokya's too, but mine are 55W and the box says 75W silulated. I hope my harnesses will live. What bulbs did you have Nick?

Weird they make to Wattages for the same size bulb»

Like; I also do not want to burn my harness.

did you ever try upgrading your harness with the eurolites? Or do you know someone that has and had good luck doing so.

You can't really "upgrade" your harnesses per se. I bought the beefiest ones I could find after trying a few auto parts store. They all melted. The problem is this.... the bulbs get much hotter than stock bulbs, and the harnesses are simply not designed to handle it. Some of the "better" blue bulbs out there actually have carbon or carbon fiber bases, which don't melt like plastic. I had to replace my harnesses at least 5 times that I can count, and I got harnesses from lots of different stores.

My bulbs were also marked 55w with 75w also on the packaging, bubba. I would definately consider getting those phillips bulbs or silverstars.

Thanks Naich. I am all thumbs when it comes to mechanics, so burning out harnesses isn't an option for me, so I appreciate feedback. Of the two, Philips or Silverstar which one would you recommend. Thanks again.

well lets just say they are comparable.

one is 20 bucks

the other is 40

the 40 dollar one is easy to find at walmart or in any auto store

the 20 dollar one may have to be ordered online.

so its basically up to you. there's no real way to say HEY this one is better. i've read in multiple places that the phillips puts out 30% more light because they dont have a color filter coating on the bulb, but that same color filter makes the light output APPEAR white/blue to the eye.

and where does it say it is DOT certified?Â;-) As far as I can tell, these are European spec.
Naich,

I had my doubts too about Philips Vision Plus not being DOT certified, so I wrote the vendor, and this is the answer:

«yes (they are DOT certified) we would not be able to sell them in new york if they were not»

So, they are DOT certified, at least in the state of N.Y.

I also wrote the vendor of the HIR headlights http://hirheadlights.com and got this answer:

«Hi, (Bubba)- Yes, they're both DOT legal, and it is cast into the base of the
bulb at the Toshiba plant. No heat issues with these bulbs, either- they run
at stock wattage, 55W and 65W. So far, they've mostly been installed in BMW
8 series cars, which are sensitive to heat, and no problems at all. That
includes 6000 miles use in my own car.

Thanks for asking,

Bill Fox aka Max Lumens»

So, as I understand it, Silverstars, Philips and HIR's and all DOT legal!
