So I was just wondering if anyone uses Synthetic oil in their ecotecs? I just switched to a synthetic blend for oil and the actual GM Delco oil filter. I do a lot of stop and go highway driving (rush hour sucks) and I am starting to drag race at a local track every few weeks. So I figured I'd upgrade my oil. Besides easier on the engine....any other advantages?

In an engine like ours there isnt any.
Other than a lighter wallet.
if you change it at regular peroids reg oil is fine, i have yet to see anything that changes my mind.

I've just been using regular oil so far, but I only changed my oil once and i only have like 5000km's on my car, at about 10k i'm going to synthetic blend then going to full synthetic.

I ran 1/4 miles with the car last night. I did get quicker times, but I put that up to my tires, not my oil. The oil though seemed to keep the car cooler, I could do 3 consecutive runs and the temp gauge would never go over half

I get my changes for free at my dealership, and I ask for synthetic blend (although I never checked to make sure that's what I was getting B) ).

As for advantages, I've heard too many conflicting "opinions" and not enough facts. I have been recommended Jeff Hartman's book "High-Performance Automotive Fuels & Fluids", but haven't read it yet.

Well I would use synthetic in mine, but I have a 100,000 Mile warranty. As long as I keep my oil changed per GM's oil change light (which I get it done every 3k) my warranty covers any engine problems. I just use Castrol GTX 5W-30. So I just see it as wasted money for me, because I don't intend to keep the Alero after 100k.

brsexton uses synthetic oil, it's just not added into the poll. I'm sure there are more people using it though.

No, I don't use it. I would, but I don't see a need for me because of my extended warranty.

Talking

I have been using Mobile 1 and the GM filter since my first oil change. I highly doubt there's really any benefit to it, but I feel better about myself for doing it. B)
