Collapsed Radiator Hose

Went out to check the ecotec's oil on a cold engine, and noticed that the main upper radiator hose is completely collapsed. Is this problem anything more than just the hose itself? This is probably a noob question I know, but I might be leaving on a road trip in a few minutes so thats why I'm asking to get a quick answer.

Even if it does inflate replace the hose... A collapsed hose is a sign of a weak hose so it should be replaced... Then check your antifreeze level too (while running after it warms up to make sure the system has purged)... You should be able to keep the radiator cap off until it starts to warm up and that's when you'll see the system purge itself of air once it runs full cycle... at that point top off with antifreeze mixture and throw the cap back on.

Ok thanks guys. I figured it was just the hose but was about to drive a long way so wanted to be sure, and I didn't have time to do any extra google searches before I left.

Isn't there supposed to be a spring inside the hose holding it open?

http://blog.virginiaclassicmustang.c...e-springs.html

Having said this, I have no idea if this concept is outdated or if Alero's are even supposed to have them, or of they are only on lower radiator hoses.

I was just outside tightening my header bolts and I noticed that my hose is collapsed. I have an extra hose in my basement, so I guess I'm replacing it

id check the radiator cap. it could not be letting in atmospheric pressure and when the coolant cools it shrinks and causing vacuum in the system.

I took the cap off and the hose did not inflate.

After 11 years and 130,1xx miles, it doesn't bother me to change it
