I have a 2000 with the 2.4 with a automatic when I shift it manually for speed when I go from 1st to 2nd I hear a chirp sound almost like a turbo at first I just figured it was my wai intake but it is in the back of my mind that it is my trans. Does anyone else have this sound while doing aggressive shifting in a automatic?

I'am talking a pretty load chirp sound at about 6500 rpms right when I shift from 1st to 2nd otherwise my intake does kinda whistle when I just tap on the gas a bit.

A belt in the trans or on the engine? I only have 1 serpentine belt if that belt was slipping I think it would be way worse than a chirp sound plus iam pretty sure it is coming from the drivers side.

its always possible my ears are off but the belt doesnt seem loose in any way uselly you hear the belt slap but maby at such a high rpm it skips when the rpms go from so fast to dropping 3000 or so rpms. any idea is there should be some tell tial slack in the belt? and does anyone how much slask the belt should have?

well it's not the slack in the belt, unless the tensioner is bad, but i doubt it. i guess the back of the belt gets really smooth over time, and can slip under stress. like i said, i wasnt sure why it was doing it, and i thought maybe the belt was loose, but after a new belt it doesnt do it anymore.

its a high pitched chirp almost like a turbo blow off valve thats why iam leaning towards my intake and I dont recall it doing it before I got my intake but I didn't really push my car before I got my intake so I have no idea. Anyone wanna sit on my engine while I drive 45 mph at 6500 rpms and switch from 1st to 2nd gear?

sounds like intake to me now that you explain it like that. mine does the same with WAI, and also did it with CAI

Does it mess up your tranny if you have an automatic and shift it yourself manually? I like to do it, but i just dont want to mess up my tranny. but i love the deep aggressive exhaust sound when i down shift with my automatic.

I have no problems up shifting but when I down shift it is a bit clunky and doesnt really feel right kinda skips it is hard to explain. But otherwise I dont know how bad it is on the auto but eseentially all your doing is shifting when you want to instead of letting your computer do it at a certain rpms and speed.

SO formulanerd your intake basically makes the same chirp sound out of the intake as mine? All I really wanted know if that was normal but all of this talk has given me insight to other possibilties.

if it's a turbo like whistle, yes mine does it, and it is normal... just air going into the TB around the butterfly.
