In that popular mechanics post it has comp cams. I have to take apart my top end for the intake gaskets. was wandering about the cams and the larger valves, (cant rem the number it gave now). I haven't played around on comp controlled motors yet, is this going to have other issues.

depends on the lift... you'll need stiffer valve springs and aftermarket retainers for safe long term operation on stock heads. You can run higher lift than that with stock valvetrain but you're asking for trouble. Down the road you will be using oil as your valve seals become prematurely worn.

The best thing to do is to call up comp cams and tell them your application and tell the what you plan on doing and they will recommend a cam and other parts like springs.

the only reason i'd call comp cams is to see if there is actually a cam for the alero... other than that you're gonna need stiffer (105lb) springs and some aftermarket retainers. otherwise you're gonna kill your valve seals and you'll be burning 1+ quarts of oil a week.
