A little mod I did
Well, it is something you look at so it goes in appearance...
Anyways, the other day I was extremely bored at the junkyard. The holidays take a toll on me and I needed some small parts. That turned into "let me go through most of the cars" and I ended up finding this...
The Gentex 177 auto dimming mirror. Got it out of a Tahoe.
The thing I really like about this is that not only does it tell you the direction the car is pointed at....
But it also tells you the temperature as well.
Took me around an hour to install, and the reason it took me so long was because of the wires I had to run, not to mention stripping wire.
The only thing I hate about it is that my gauges are red but the mirror is the Generic green.
If anyone else is interested, I'll write a how to.

X3. I would clean up the wiring a little bit though, Otherwise looks good. Does it slide over the same metal button as the GA or do you need the one out of the tahoe?

Very nice man. I was thinking about doing the same mod but I didn't care too much for having to wire up the external temp sensor. You should use heat shrink and solder instead of electrical tape to make it look cleaner.

this defiantly needs a write up, at least someone with some excellent fab skills.

Happy, you don't need "excellent fab skills" for this. It's simple plug and play. If you know your car's electrical system, and have general knowledge of electricity (as well as respect for it), the sky is the limit.
The hardest thing in this was splicing so much wire. It's annoying. That's why my wires are all black, and that's why I halfed assed it. My next goal is to make it look clean but it works, and no one stares at the wires.... then again, I ride alone most of the time.
It was asked, so I delivered.

I didn't post pics, but I tried to write it in a way that you envision it as you read. If people demand step by step pics then I will deliver.

$10 at a local pickapart. And by local, I meant in the general area. I got the rear view about 40 miles away from DC.

I fixed it a long time ago. I uploaded it, but to the Grand Am forum.
Here's how it looks like now. I personally am happy I did it. It looks factory now.

looks better than it did, but if you can find some, heat shrink tube would make it look 100x better imo...
