HO manifold? Doesn't look like it...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-3-L...em230233050618

Uhhhhhhh this auction says it is a HO intake manifold... This does NOT look like any HO manifold I have ever seen for this engine. Any thoughts?

i believe they made some tubular style manifolds like early on. before they went with the design most of us usually find. cant remember right off hand.

I think they made those for the older HO engines, then switched to the large plenum design most of us are used to seeing.

If you're looking to swap, I'd advise to keep the stock manifold. Unless your boosted, all the HO manifold will do on a nearly stock engine is help it lose power - dyno proven.

Quoted from the page ...

This is off a HO 2.3 L Quad 4 its dirty but good, can be used to the best of my knowledge on any GM 2.3 single or double cam motor. It will not fit a 2.4

While it might be made to fit the 2.4 engine, as others have stated, it will not help.

But it's still not a HO manifold. That is pre-HO.

Hmm... What is it that makes an intake manifold HO, if not the fact that it came from a HO engine?

It has a larger plenum area than the standard output manifold. The original Quad4 manifold (in that link) had individual runners.

The manifold itself does not make anything "High Output". It's the fact that it came on the 2.3L Quad 4 High Output engines which is why it's referred to as the HO intake manifold. On a stock or lightly modified 2.4, the HO manifold makes the engine lose power.

Quad 4 High Output manifold. The non-High Output Quad 4 engine's manifold looked similar, but had a smaller plenum.

Original Quad 4 manifold

the tubular piece of nonsense in the ebay auction was as stated an early quad 4 intake manifold. This was the design before they went to the intake manifolds we all recognize. Basically this thing is a relic of the late 1980's. It looked cool, but that's about it.

From what I understand this was only found on regular quad 4's, not the highoutput models.

There were no high-output Quad4s when that manifold was made.
