Upper strut bearing???
Hey all just got a quick question regarding some play, in the left wheelwhile driving. it feels like the car wants to hydro plain a bit in the rain and always pull towards the left. Also on braking to.When backing out only to the right med-slow there is a nasty clunk.
All tierods have been done, ball joints, control arm bushings and stabilizers, also brakes and hubs....Also when i jacked up the left side and move the tire back and forth real quick i see some play betwen the wheel and the strut mount itself.WOuld this be a strut or bearing?.thanks guys/women. ....

As far as I know, there are grinding noises from the front when you turn, but I dont know what else.

Change upper strut mounts, should include bearing and all that... sounds like the bushing in the top of the mount has become worn/loose.
I've seen it on the rear of older Monte Carlos/Luminas.. I'd imagine same thing could happen in the front of an Alero.

Basics retard question... Were these problems before or after the aformentioned repairs were done? (The ole just cuz you fixed it last week doen't mean it's not the problem today, rule). The time line doesn't realy matter unless it's after or realy close to...
(Someone else ask about the wheels and the fact roads are angled for drainage)

everything was replaced, and there still was a clunk..now like 5months later there is the play in the wheel, and the clunk is effing nasty..there is also tire wear i noticed on the outsides of the tire(driver). Also alignment was done 5 months ago, which leaves me to believe w.e was clunking and has gotten worse is the reason. Also if the helps, the car seems more sensitive going left a bit, compared to right?.Thanks all.

its your strut bearing plate. my rear passenger side had some play in it so i went and bought new struts. upon further examination, the mount was also bad. sounds like your exact problem as mine clunked too. when pulling out on the top of my wheel there was a lot of play and my strut was moving. the plates are 40 a piece at advanced and not too bad to change providing you have the right tools, specifically a spring compressor and impact wrench. though you can also get by without the impact by using vise grips on the nut holding your plate to the rod on the top of your strut and i believe a 10mm socket to spin the rod.

i didnt read the whole post but from the symptoms it sounds like that tire may be on a lower PSI causing the pull/hydroplaning, as for the other stuff, you need upper strut mounts, they cost about 70$ i think the last ones i got were monroes

Is there a way to lube the strut bearings? Can you squeeze some grease in there or something?
