P0172 "system too rich" (bank 1) code.. all I know is the car is running terribly rich

its been running kinda rough for about 5k (2k since my LIM replacement.) and I am pretty sure my fuel system is messed up, I did the screwdriver on the injector ear test the back middle one didn't sound quite like the rest of them.

anyone else have this happen? I was almost thinking about just replacing my whole fuel rail and injectors

It would probably be recommended to do a injector coil resistance and injector balance test. The coil resistance is easy to test, just remove the electrical plug on the Injector and use a DVOM (multimeter) to measure the resistance across the two terminals on the injector.

The balance test unfortunately requires specific equipment that usually only mechanics might have (the dealer probably has it)..

You could always see if there is a place which will clean and measure the injectors if you bring them in (some performance shops can do this.)

Just take it to a reputable mechanic. My dad's shop has all of the crap to do that with, most shops should have the equipment to check and clean injectors.

I had that same issue not too long ago. Was running rich. I ended up replacing all 6 injectors. Runs great now. Cleared up a stalling issue that I was having when the engine was warmed up and I was trying to start it.

True, many shops have the injector cleaner which hooks up to the fuel rail, but some have the ability to clean and flow-test them out of the car which usually does a better job. I happen to be fortunate enough to be like a mile from http://www.casperselectronics.com/ who will do them for around $10/ea

yeah so today the car runs fine, it accelerates smoother and doesn't have an SES light on. I am going to have a mech look at it and also get my tranny flushed.

Exactly what I am talking about...i think...it sprays into like really big vials so you can see the spray pattern and everything and make sure they are clean.

Wow, that's cool that he has that. I don't know of ANY regular shops around here that even have them, always get referred to caspers.

Guy who owned before him mainly focused on the older vw's...so you pretty much had to have one to work on the diesels....
