2002 Recall Letter

Hey Yall,

Oldsmobile sent out a recall letter some time last year on 2002 models that have that turn signal defect where the turn signal constantly clicks and never stops. I lost mine and went to the dealership to try and get the defect fixed for free, since Oldsmobile said thats what should happen.

Well, the dealership found the letter in their computer and said they would fix it. So I left my alero with them and then when I came back they said "Its not the turn signal, its the steering column. It'll cost $350 to fix it." I knew they were lying, so I just took my car and left.

I was wondering if anyone knew where I can find the letter online or post it her if you have it. I went to the Oldsmobile website to register my car via its VIN to get the recall letter from there but for some reason it wont register.

Nope, sometimes it just takes a couple days before they register your VIN. You can just call them too.

I'll have to try calling them and rechecking the site then. Thanks much. My last resort is to fix the problem myself with some instructions from this site and the site for Grand Am GTs.

Since this was an "active" recall (you got a letter) and not a passive one (the dealer replaces the part when they come across bad ones) you are entitled to a free replacement part for your 2002 Alero, whether or not your car suffers from the defect. If it were me, I would go down to the dealer, politely ask for my part, and go home to put it on. If it's the turn signal actuator, it takes about 15 minutes and a philips head screwdriver to install.

Don't let these jerks get over on you... Let us know how it pans out!
