The performance tranny should be able to handle more than 300 which alows you room to boost higher. But then again you would probably need to upgrade some engine pieces then. lol

Either way if you want a fast car you are gonna have to pay for it. It just becomes your choice of whether you want to pay for it in your loan or pay for it after.

Yea....my thing with getting any kit like this is just go ahead and save some money and get the best kit, that way u dont end up spending more down the road to upgrade the kit, and perhaps you can then focus like you said on upgrading engine parts sooner....my 2 cents....

Do any places out there produce a S/C kit for the ecotec? I would love to start saving now if it does exist.....is an upgrade to the tranny an essential with an automatic? (stupid question but just wanna know what might be needed to be done if I do get a S/C in the future)
gm makes one for the saturn ion redline

Think of it this way, unless you bought the alero new off the lot, I highly doubt you paid more than $12,000..... throw a performance tranny and the S/C on there and you can be about about $23,000 installed (if having a professional install and all)... which gets you around 300hp in a unique car to whereas u could have saved maybe $1000 or so for a new baseline mustang, ill keep my alero personally....my 2 cents..... (maybe my prices are high, but i threw down about $11,500 after all expenses for my 02 alero last June with 25,000 miles on it)
Damn, 23K for 300 HP?

I love my alero but look at this S-13 chasis 2G, sr20det 3G, controller 2G, bigger turbo 2g, misc parts 1G and for less than 10G you have well over 300whp in a lighter, RWD car; And my prices are high.

how 'bout a 1g DSM TSi say 5G, same mods as above and for <15G you are looking at 300+ HP in AWD, but watch those axles issed:

See how, if you got the know how, the alero is just not a tuner car? Don't get me wrong I love John's car, riden in it and it's sweet, but to be really comptitive 1. you have to spend a ton on the alero 2. move to a different platform.

I plan to have a respectable ride, will beat most stock 3.4 but for my major jollies I have a couple of other rides

are we talking 300hp wheels or crank
300 crank is cake
300wheels can be had but my car wasent feeling it on the dyno
wouldnt even give the 300 torque
layed 299.4 ft/lbs at the wheels
not even enough to round up
the alero just became cheaper to mod
bunny the auto, I'm going manual and you know for less than the domestic performance trans would cost
granted I do my own work but still
I have less in my alero than a TA would cost me (payment and ins) and I havent been beat by one at the track (bad driver factor included)

300WHP is cake. I've seen twice that, AWHP, for less than 20G. Doing all the work yourself is the biggest way to make a project affordable.

Are you talking about a late model TA or an older one? I assume a late model, since the older ones are cheaper, a few grand depending on condition, and easier to mod with a HUGE number of parts readily available.

I think given your altitude, you can round up, its OK

Eh maybe my prices were high, but thats assuming you have no knowledge other than how to drive (no offense but thats all that some people do have)....I myself will not touch my car on mods other than easy stuff like adding lights or maybe a CAI... of course my car is still under limited warranty and full powertrain warranty...so I am held back on what I wanna do...and yes I know most say bunny the warranty crap, but my luck would be I do one mod and the car will go kerplunk or get in another wreck from some stupid girl not paying attention to what shes doing. I would love to work on the engine, tranny, etc. myself but for now plan to leave it up to someone who can do it faster and know exactly what they are doing...hopefully in the future when I have more time to learn this stuff those prices wont be even in my mind....

well I'm still developing this kit.
I've thrown arround some production cost and have some different ideas.
honestly I want to handle as little money as possible on this.
my current idea is to have you buy head units directly from whipple or another supplier and I get the parts made to fit the kit to the car.
right now I have some people looking at the shaft.
one shaft is $700-900 additional shafts are 300-400 if we get 5 or more.

that averages out to about 425 per shaft if 6 are purchased to cover R&D cost.
may be a little more may be less depending on materials used.

so basically I'm asking would you rather pay a deposit for a complete kit or buy piece at a time as they are produced?

also the first kits would be sold at my cost of materials because those people would be helping get the kits made.

When the kit is complete, and been fully tested for dependability I'll purchase one

I would be really interested in a 3400 s/c as would everyone else, but...... the problem is not finding one, the problem is finding one under $3,500.

due to small production numbers and customization available my kit would not be less than 3500. the raw head unit is about $1600 alone

that could very well be true. not too many people are afte rmy hp goals either so having a sc of that size is pointless.
now the 1200 could see production
if its non intercooled and whipple doesnt raise their prices making it for less than 3500 may be possible
