I would venture a guess at "masking" tape.

but from what I heard, 3M's Tartan tape is good for masking off spray paint.

i used regular "cheap" masking tape.... the templates took a while to make... i applied very light coats to black them out which led to no bleeding.... pics soon i promise

is that the spray tint or opaque black? (I never seen our tails with the tint, so I don't know what they look like)

Looks good, but why did you use cheap tape to seal it off? Perhaps I overlooked what you said, but the paint probably wont' last long if you didnt seal it off properly. Also they have adhesive bond, or primer that will help make the paint last long. Did You just use the plastic spray paint. What I would have done is spray the tails with this ahesive spray paint sprays on clear stays clear then do the black spray followed by clear spray paint to seal everything off, and give an extra gloss finish.

i understand that i didn't prep the lenses right.... these are only trial's.... the joy of doing a trial run without prepping the surface is that if you mess-up, the paint will come off much easier than it would if i had prepped it.....
