problem central, and I don't have 4000$

ok so I knew that there were a few things wrong with my car, A/c clutch/pully, and strut mounts and I took it to a dealership to havetthem check it outbut holy crapin addition to those, my LIM gasket is gone, one of my brake calipers is leaking,my water pumpis leaking, and worst and most explensive of all my power steering gear is leaking. and with all the dealer mark up in the world the magic number to fix it all 4000$!!

I don't know what to do right now. I got a couple of people who are trying to help me with parts, cause I don't have 2000$ for parts. I hope(key word) that I can do some of the work myself but I don't know. what do you guys think I should do?

Yea but is he gonna get anything for it?? i mean with all those problems i doubt he will get any good amount of money, say he gets $2,000 for it, what is he gonna do with the money then? put it as a down payment on something else? that wont work, cause then he will be paying a lot monthly. So i would say just ask around on this forum, theres a grand am forum too, and see what your friends can get you, and try to install some of the parts yourself, or if u need help, maybe someone u know can help you.....maybe u can pay them $100?? idk, just some suggestions, but that really sucks man..... I have been really happy with my alero and after reading somethings on here ive been really paranoid about how my car runs and i hear more things that i used to, lol.

But good luck man, hope you find a good solution

if you're hell bent on keeping the car here's some tips of places to take it to get fixed cheaper...
1. local garage, not a dealership
2. high school mechanic class
3. trade school
4. vo-tech with auto mechanics...

If it comes down to this^^, DO NOT take it to a high school mechanic class......One of my sisters old bf took his stealth there cause he didnt have much money at the time, and they didnt really fix the problems too well. I mean if it comes down to it and u really DONT HAVE ANY MONEY, then ok ur obviously gonna have to do something like that, but if u can save up some money just take it to a local garage(someone that u think u can trust, cause i know around albany there isnt many places u can go to where u can trust people to work on your car).

Get a personal loan. That way it gets done, and you can make month payments back to the bank. get it for like 2 or 3 years and it woule be like 100 a month. Just a suggestion.

IDK it's up to you.You could wait on the A/C but everything else must get fixed right away.

yes the a/c does run on defrost but the compressor electrics can be unplugged preventing the clutch from actually engaging.this will help prevent the compressor from locking up.

simple, if you have any idea what a wrench is, go get a Haynes or Chiltons, and fix it yourself. All the problems you listed are easy to repair, just a little time consuming. Take your time with it, and you'll be happy in the end.

speaking of personal loans, are those easier to obtain over an auto loan?

Usually the V5 compressor clutch fails where it makes noise when the A/C is off. It makes like a grinding/rubbing noise. When you have the A/C on it goes away.
