Exactly how clean do the surfaces need to be, and what's a good way to do it. Removing the RTV was easy enough, but I can still see outlines where the old gasket was touching places.
Plus there is still gasket parts on the top of the LIM where the UIM goes. It definately needs to be removed. I'm thinking of trying gel paint remover next. Razor blade won't get it.
i used a razor.. just be very careful not to scratch the metal... there were a few spots that were completely smooth, with a small bit of black gasket still in them. I left them. As long as its completely smooth, it shouldn't make a huge difference.
Actually I was thinking of using acetone as the last step. Gasoline seems to be working better then just about anything, but I think it leaves a residue. I might pick up some brake cleaner though.
